If you are smelling gas, you have a leak. Check around the injectors after the motor has been running and been driven. You should be able to see a visible means of the leak. I have an 87 Accord that was doing the same thing and I had 2 injector seals leaking. I would check this first. If you don't have any leaks that you see, then start checking the fuel lines and seals around the injection system. That smell is coming from somewhere. sounds like you have head gasket/intake manifold problem. you may need to change that before you clean the fuel injectors. The reason you have low horsepower is a vacuum leak or compression leak is developed once the gasket composition ibreaks down. There may be a pinch in the gasket which allows air to escape since it's no longer tightly sealed. you can also check for a vacuum hose that's not attached to the proper port. This is also a sign that you need a gasket. The pressure from the intake builds up,seeps out and creates a backdraft of pressure throughout the air compression system of the engine that in turn causes hoses to be 'blown off'. 98.9% chance it's the gasket because you smell fuel AND low compression/horsepower. So, get the gasket changed first then clean the injectors. That should solve the problem.

2. Relieve fuel system pressure

4. Pull the plastic hairpin-type retain clip out of the upper fuel line connector. Push the hose off the fitting.
5.Loosen the filter clamp.
6. Securely block the rear wheels so the vehicle can't roll. Jack up the front end and place it on jack stands. DO NOT get under a vehicle that's supported only by a jack!
7. Pull the hairpin-type retaining clip from the hose at the bottom of the filter and disconnect the hose.
8. Installation is the reverse of the removal ...steps

They will know exactly what this is. Those before mentioned documents are the service procedures for changing the spark plugs in each respective engine. Note that these engines are very different. You can have them fax these over to you. They are only about 1-2 pages long with illustrations. Now if you still feel sketchy about it, you should probably take the vehicle in to a shop to have the work done. If you are using platinum plugs, you will only have to pay a shop to change the plugs every about 100,000 miles or so. Probably worth the price seeing as how long you can go before you need them done again.
As far as the fuel filter. I'm not sure if your's is in-line or in the tank. If it's in the tank, you would consider it unservicable. And even if you wanted to service it yourself, I have reservations about instructing you on changing it. You see there is pressure on the fuel line and if you try to open the line, fuel will come out. You could hurt yourself or cause a catastrophic event in a matter of seconds is something goes wrong.
Long story short, just pay the money and have someone else do it. That way you don't have to worry about it, it is done, guaranteed, and you won't have to do it again for quite a while. They r located under the spark plug wires once you remove them u will see the spark plug. Note they r to be removed one at a time and replaced immediately. Also I was told this by a family mechanic. The spark plugs are still in my car in the box because i have learned that there is no way to fix this car on your own u need a professional for every little thing. About the fuel filter listen to the GM and Dodge guy. It cost me $900 for a fuel pump and filter because the fuel system is very well hidden and difficult. Note the fuel pump it's self was 600-700 because it was in the tank or something like that! So be safe and take it in if the filter is all u need! I was here to look for help with the spark plug twist numbers for a V6 and I am still searching!

If you want to release the pressure, just go to the schrader valve on the fuel injector rail. It looks like an air valve. Wrap it with alarge cloth and take a small screw driver and push in the valve core. Once the ignition is off, bleead the pressure out by depressing the tire like valve on the fuel rail. Change the filter and then turning the key on will repressurize it.

After you shut off the car, lift the hood. On the fuel rail assembly where the injectors come from and you should find a valve that looks like a valve stem you see in a tire. Press the steel relief pin in the middle of it in and gasoline will squirt out and relieve the pressure.
It's called a pressure relief valve. The best way to relieve it is to place an old rag over while you push the pin in.
You're going to have some gasoline run out of the fuel line when you take the old filter off anyway, so use a catch pan.
You don't need to fool with that safety shutoff switch. It's a safety device and if you trigger it manually it might fail in the event of an accident.
Finally, if you're going to work on your own cars, invest in the repair manual sold for that year make and model of car. The name of the manual is Hayne's or Chilton's. Hayne's manuals are better. They tell you step by step how to properly make repairs just like this one, and much more.
They cost about twenty dollars but they are a wise investment.

It's called a pressure relief valve. The best way to relieve it is to place an old rag over while you push the pin in.
You're going to have some gasoline run out of the fuel line when you take the old filter off anyway, so use a catch pan.
You don't need to fool with that safety shutoff switch. It's a safety device and if you trigger it manually it might fail in the event of an accident.
Finally, if you're going to work on your own cars, invest in the repair manual sold for that year make and model of car. The name of the manual is Hayne's or Chilton's. Hayne's manuals are better. They tell you step by step how to properly make repairs just like this one, and much more.
They cost about twenty dollars but they are a wise investment.

FYI.............on this vehicle you will need to remove the differential assembly and its very complicated to do.
Replacing the fuel filter is very simple just remember to replace the brass washers and do not twist the fuel lines when going back.

I've had my Peugeot 106 for just over 2 years now, but it's just over 6 years old, and only 41,000 miles on the clock. I need to get it serviced but don't know what type of service I need, I have been told that there's a basic one, and also one where they change the fuel filter for æ‹¢100 more... seems pretty expensive to me, but how important is it to get this changed? Oil suffers from short journeys, condensation forms internally, then boils off after about 6 or 7 miles when the oil temp comes up, if the engine does not run at full temperature for a while the resulting water sinks to the bottom of the engine raising the oil level, after a while internal corrosion starts, and the ol level gets too high which starts oil loss through the breather system, if the car then does a motorway journey the water boils off and the oil level drops alarmingly for this reason a short journey car should have 6 montly oil changes, while a 10 000 per year can make do with a 12 monthly changes. Low mileage cars are not a particularly clever buy, One of mine has done 172 000 at present, it replaced a newer one of the same model which was uneconomic to repair at 89 000, but it still gets regular services despite running out of service book at 96 000,

A reputable garage should change the Oil, filter, Plugs and Air filter. It's not necessary to get the expensive service done yet, and judging by your mileage (approx 5000 a year) then an oil change and basic service is best.
when it hits 50k or even 55k then get a major service done, which will mean brakes, Gearbox oil (possibly) all filters and maybe the coolant changed. Shop around, or get a recommendation from a friend as regarding the best local garage or mechanic to do it.

DO NOT try to change those filters, they are life time filters and so not need to be changed, usually they are located in the fuel tank, but if the filter is located in the engine compartment, then that is changeable, and it is not hard to change them, all you need is three wrenches, sizes are different for every car, usually a 14mm, one 17mm and a 10mm will do, and you have to be able to get to it, that is the hard part, and be careful the fuel system is pressurized always, make sure to open the fuel line slowly and let the pressurized fuel drain first, then you could open the line and change the filter, good luckHow hard is it to change the fuel filter on a 2003 Honda Odyssey?

on a 97 you might have those quick connects which auto zone has the tool to remove them but if your car is like my 88 oldsmobile then all you need is a line wrench to unscrew the lines on both ends and off comes the filter but make sure you release the pressure from the tank first.

On that model it is under your driver side rear wheel. It's pretty easy to change if your not in a cold climate. Make sure you use wd-40 and soak it the night before so it comes of easy. Make sure you don't strip the fuel line while taking the filter out. It might be easier to have someone else do it for you if you live in a cold climate area. They run about 30 dollars at a parts store so they are pretty cheap. If the filter is under the hood you can do the job yourself.
Disconnect the + cable from the battery.
Wear safety glasses.
Wipe the old filter and the fuel lines around it to remove any dirt etc.
Have a few rags available for some spillage. With the car off the fuel line is not under pressure. You will need at least 2 wrenches to loosen the flare nuts leading %26quot;in%26quot; and %26quot;out%26quot; of the filter.
Loosen and remove both fuel lines.
The fuel filter may be held in place as well with a clamp and you will need to remove the filter form this %26quot;holder%26quot;.
If possible depending on how the holder is designed it may be easier to reconnect the new filter and it's fuel lines before re-installing it into the holder. Be mindful of he new gaskets that may be included with the ne filter and be sure that the old gaskets are not still in place on the end of the fuel lines.
Re-install, tighten up, and double check your work.
Wipe up any mess possible left over from the fuel, allow it to sit a few minutes before connecting the battery back up.
Check work again, test start the car by turning the key on, wit 5 seconds to allow the fuel pump in the gas tank to apply fuel pressure then engage the starter.
It may not catch right away as the inside of the new filter is dry so you may have to repeat the previous starting step.
If you have any doubts, hit the local library and photocopy a page from a repair manual for you car regarding fuel filter replacement.
Good luck and no smoking during this job. :)

Have gotten the fuel filter almost off. On the end closest to the engine, diengaged the quick connect fitting and the filter came out on that side, but the end closest to the tank has a metal coupling on it which i cannot figure out. that metal coupling is a safety strap i believe, that ford used for years. pull it out of the way and use the same extractor that you were on the other side, after that it should be a cake walk.

Grab a Hayne's manual. It will tell you where the fuel filter is and it'll tell you how to relieve the pressure as well. It's a $15 book...pick it up when you get the fuel filter. Besides, every person should have one for their vehicle...it's like a Bible in most cases.

I don't have this vehicle, but almost all newer vehicles have special retaining clips or quick connect fittings for the fuel lines. Therefore, you will have to get a Hayes or Chilton manual to figure out which special tool you need to remove the filter (every company seams to have a different set-up). Also, notice I said quick connect fittings, not quick disconnect fittings. They have a nasty ability to rust on the inside and collect dirt, which makes them particularly difficult to remove. Use lots of P%26amp;P (Penetrating oil %26amp; Persistance). The occasional swear word also helps, I find!
As far as pressure goes, you should always relieve the pressure first, but you will not harm the system if you don't. Just be prepared for a stream of gas to come out and clean up the spill immediately. Gasoline will burn the skin quite badly if it stays in contact with your skin for long.
To find the fuel filter, just follow the fuel line from the tank to the injectors. The fuel filter will be a cylindrical object in-line with the fuel line. Like where the filter is located I thought it was on the rear side of the strut tower mounted on the fraim rail in the fuel line but I don't see it.

Several types eg roto,cav or bosch If its the screw on type just remove old filter get new filter and fill it to the top with fresh diesel screw it back on and fire up the engine no need to bleed this type.If its paper element undo the filter housing remove old filter clean out filter housing fit new filter undo small 8mm bleed screw and either squeeze priming bulb or press lift pump primer button till fuel with no air bubbles comes out of bleeder lock up bleed screw and fire engine.Always make sure rubber O rings are fully seated or next time you start the car you will have to bleed it again as fuel will run back in to the tank and system will pull in air.

fuel filter is always a good ideal...how many miles ? Newer style trans like yours are designed to go 100,000 miles before servicing...but with poor quality fuel these days a fuel filter is good to change...and check or replace air filter ..plugs are also called %26quot;extended-life%26quot; plugs..so should be fine...I would also add a good fuel injector cleaner about every third tank of fuel...my favorite is available most everywhere but is made by chevrn...in a black bottle...called %26quot;Chevron-Techroline%26quot;...this is the most effective additive I have found yetDo I need to change the fuel filter and manual transaxle fluid in my 2006 Mazda3i?

I don't think you have to worry about your manual transmission. I would contact a mazda dealer and ask them to be sure.
