What is an approximate Labor Cost for getting my Fuel Filter changed?

On my 1991 Oldsmobile Calais, the Fuel Filter is right on the bottom of the Fuel Tank, I can see it. So, it LOOKS Easy to change. Given this, what would a labor Rate be on it, approximately?

Thank You

Also, is it best to do this with almost -No- Fuel in the Lines or Tank, as some will surely drip out? Im wondering for when i spy on teh Shop that doe sit, sittign in their waiting area lookign through the window, as i dont know how to do this, and id ave to buy tools....What is an approximate Labor Cost for getting my Fuel Filter changed?
it is a simple job. You would have to call up various shops %26amp; find out their %26quot;flat rate.%26quot; I would suggest a %26quot;mom %26amp; pop shop.%26quot;

Don't worry about a little dripping fuel. It is inevitable, but it won't be huge puddles or anything.

the only tools you would have to buy would be a set of metric wrenches, %26amp; for that job you could buy the cheap Chinese wrenches. The price of those would probably be cheaper than the labor charge from a shop.

Good luck. What is an approximate Labor Cost for getting my Fuel Filter changed?
This is a relatively simple change. The fuel filter has metric threaded nuts on each end of

it. Some metric line wrenches is all you need. When the pressure has been released in the

system there will be no forced fuel coming out of the tank so the only drainage will be what is

still in the line and fuel filter. Best to have a shop do this . Figure $ 45.00 for the entire job.

That is, unless it very rusted and changing this becomes more time consuming and complicated.

There is no need to drain the tank, but having less fuel is better if there are complications and

that tank needs to be drained. Whatever you have in there should be fine.

The labor charge shouldn't be over 3 tenths of an hour or 18-20 minutes. At a $60.00/hr rate that would be around $18 to $20.

Joseph, I wouldn't replace the filter just yet. You and Binky need to ride a bit more to be certain the last repair is gonna hold up. No point spending money on other stuff yet (unless the filter has plugged completely). What is an approximate Labor Cost for getting my Fuel Filter changed?

How do I increase the life of my car?

I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu LS with 134,300 miles on it.

I recently had a %26quot;tune-up%26quot; which involved changing out the plugs and wires. Does this increase the life of the car? What else can I do to increase the life of my car (besides belt changes, fluid flushes, oil changes, fuel filter and oil filter changes, and other routine maintenance)? I want this car to last until 200,000 or even beyond. The only problems I've had with it have been relatively minor (fuel pump needed changed and turn signals needed to be replaced which was on a recall and I had both done for free; something with the radiator pump or something the other needed to be replaced, which was just a $30 job; and I think that's all that's really gone wrong.)How do I increase the life of my car?
In order to make your car last a long time, you need to make sure you get regular oil changes (including the oil filter). Another thing that helps is keeping it clean. I suggest washing your car at least once every two or three weeks. About every 3 washes, make sure you wax it. Paste wax is the easiest to work with in this application. Make sure you go by the book and have regular mantinence at the scheduled intervals. I would also make sure te tires have the proper amount of pressure in them to keep those last as long as they can. Depending on where you live during the colder winter months, make sure you let your car warm up for at least 5 minutes!! It is very hard on an ice cold engine to run in winter conditions! Other than that, make sure you know how your car runs. Also %26quot;listen%26quot; to your car. That way if something goes wrong, you can hear or feel it on the wheel. How do I increase the life of my car?
The car will last as long as you keep doing the maintenance. At somepoint the cost of the maintenance isn't justified. Why put $1500 in repairs towards a car that isn't worth $1500?

You should know what the value of the car is, then decide if fixing it is a good use of your money.

Most cars get to a point where the high $ repairs start coming in constantly, at that point your more or less making a car payment anyway...

I have 1999 Nissan Maxima with 155K miles on it. It's getting to that point now. Just invested $2K in service + brakes, now it needs fuel injectors for another $1K. The trade-in value is just over $3K, when do I say uncle? How do I increase the life of my car?
depending on the make of the auto some cars will surpass 200,000 miles quite easily. Not knowing the make or model of your car I would say your on the right track all ready with your regular ,routine maintenance program.Changing motor oil is one of the most important and vital things you can do. However you can make a huge difference in the vehicles life expediency,by the way you drive it.I mean if you let it warm up in the morning or at the beginning of your commute, this will make your engine happy. Also after your commute let your engine idle for a few minutes, before shutting it off. This will let the hot engine cool and reduce wear and tear on moving parts and sealing components Heavy or hard acceleration is kind of rough on an engine as well as the transmission. This too should be avoided,as well as hard deceleration or coming to a sudden stop from a high speed. Have you ever heard the phrase yep this vehicle is a real cream puff, all highway miles on her, perhaps during a sale of a vehicle? There is a big difference in highway miles vs stop and go city traffic miles on a vehicle. I would stay away from any oil additives like prolong engine treatment or slick 50 to name a couple. These oil additives are not at all necessary if you take care and use common sense, which you seem to already have.I think your on the right track alright and should be fine.Good Luck Drive Safe

Fuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?

I have to put fuel into my Carbuerator to get my car just to start. Today my engine light came on and when I took it to get checked out, it was code 452, and was saying something about fuel pressue being low. So what I want to know is, is it the Fuel pump gone bad or the Fuel filter that is clogged or gone bad? I have a 2001 Chevy blazer and I just dont think that the fuel pump will be bad on it since its a newer car. I was told that its possible that my fuel filter is just clogged and needs changing. I already did a fuel injection cleaner but that didnt do anything. How much would it cost to change the fuel filter??? Please dont tell me to take it to the dealer, thanksFuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?
Chevrolet fuel pumps are junk, frankly. I work at a Chevy dealership, and we do fuel pumps hand over fist on cars with sometimes as little as 30k. It's hard to say without putting a fuel pressure gauge on the car, but the fuel pump probably is bad. If the fuel pump is bad, you should have the fuel filter replaced at the same time, because it probably hasn't ever been done. When the fuel filter clogs up, it makes the fuel pump work harder, which is just too much to ask for those crappy little pumps, so have the fuel filter changed every 15k or so, to maximize fuel pump life. Labor times for fuel pump replacement are 2.1 hours for a 2 door blazer, 3.0 hours for a 4 door, and if the tank has a shield on it, thats another 0.5 hours. The fuel pump is somewhere in the range of 500 to 550 dollars. Most shops will charge 1.0 hour to diagnose the problem, and the fuel filter pays 0.7 hours to replace, some shops charge less so they can sell more of them. I don't know what labor rates are in your area, dealerships are around 100 dollars an hour around here, independent shops are around 75. I personally would advise against trying to get a cheaper aftermarket fuel pump, as bad as the factory pumps are, the aftermarket ones are even worse, and a total waste of money. Go with factory parts-make an issue of it with your mechanic if you need to.Fuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?
A fuel filter usually costs about $10 from walmart and it is extremely easy to replace. My guess about 15 minutes by any mechanic.

Simple troubleshooting, spend the few dollars and eliminate that possibility.

Fuel pump could be bad, or the fuel pressure regulator. It is vacuum operated, so there might be a possibility that you lost a vacuum hose on or near the regulator. These are all easy things to check and any mechanic would be able to diagnose it. You don't have to go to the dealer.

Good luck.

Edit: Upon further thought, you might have a fuel injector that is stuck open and releasing the fuel pressure after it has set for a little while. Again, this isn't hard to diagnose, a decent mechanic can find this as well.Fuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?

You have not given enough information to tell you exactly what is wrong, but it is a safe guess that the fuel filter may be at fault. You would need fuel pressure readings to know if it is a fuel pump, it could even be the injector or the computer or the ignition module for that matter.Fuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?
A fuel filter for your vehicle is only a few dollars. When trying to diagnose a problem without alot of special test equipment, or experience... Always replace the least expensive part (filter) first! That way, even if it doesn't fix the problem, you haven't wasted alot of money. If your engine continues to run on it's own after you pour gas in your carb./thottle body, you can assume the pump is working but fuel flow is restricted.Fuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?
I own Chevy檚 and have always, with these computers you are best advised to stay with the dealer part. The fuel filter is located likely as on mine under the vehicle just ahead of the tank mounted on the frame in the wide open. Any one can replace it with an IQ above 40. If you'll go by a dealer take your insurance card with you they can pull up your exact vehicle by the VIN number located on your insurance card. Change the filter and see where you're at. Because one way or the other the filter should be changed and it's very likely the filter because one trip through a cheap gas station with filth in their storage tank can wipe out the filter and besides by time you paid to have it checked you could have just changed it yourself. From there if you still have fuel problems it is the pump which is mounted in the tank and requires the tank to be pulled and drained to service it. If the vehicle is still run able then drive it until the warning light comes on that you are near empty then have the pump replaced. I would locate a good dependable mechanic to do the work and supply the pump yourself purchased as you did the filter. It isn't rocket science to install but one has to be strong enough to handle the tanks weight with what ever amount of fuels in it. If you have some gear head male friends they can do it in a driveway and save you a heap of money. Shops going to charge for disposal of the old fuel and for new fuel to run on as well. Also don't start the car by pouring gas in the throttle body (carb as you call it) because there is a high risk of fire, use starting fluid that comes in a spray can and is available at Wal-Mart or anywhere else that carries the basics. I have had to replace the fuel pump two times on a 1989 pickup with 225,000 miles on it. I also have a 94 Chevy that hasn檛 ever been changed so I don檛 agree that they go out left and right as stated in another answer.Fuel Pump Vs Fuel Filter? (SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY)?
First off I am scared of where you are placing fuel at!!! You say you have to put it in the carb, yet later you say you have injectors. If your running fuel intot he throttle body, then you are opening yourself up for a problem. All I can say is change the filter first, since it is easier and cheaper. If you still carry the fault then you know it might be the pump. You will have to take it to the dealer to get it changed cause it is most likely inside the gas tank, not fun to change.

An oil change place such as jiffy lube should be able to do it for you. Changing fuel filters although generally easy to do can have consequences for being done improperly by somebody inexperienced. You will need to let pressure off of the fuel rail before unhooking the filter.

I would recommend purchasing a service manual for your vehicle from Autozone. Newer vehicles also typically have a special disconnect tool that will be needed to remove the old filter. They run about 7-15 dollars.

I do not know what vehicles %26quot;Rudedude%26quot; has changed fuel filters on, but I have owned Fords, Chevys, and Suzukis, and have never heard of such prices for tools and fuel filters. I respectfully disagree with his answer. Snap-on tools are also not practical for the average home-mechanic due to their high cost. There are much more practically priced disconnect tools available.

As for disposal of the fuel filter, wrap it in a plastic grocery bag and put it in the trash can.In-line fuel filter v.w.2001 new beetle. Can it be changed without taking it to a mechanic??? Anybody know ?
You can do it yourself but your going to have to buy some tools to do it. The release tool for the fuel lines will run you about 50 bucks ( snap on tools make this tool ) and then there is the time and effort you need to put into doing it .Last is getting rid of the filter safely. For the 75 bucks some place is going the charge you isn't it worth it for someone else to do it ???

    Good luck hope I helped.

yes-the clips on the hoses get pushed in-dont pull out. then it should just be a phillips screw that holds the housing together.

    Changing the fuel filter?

How do you change the fuel filter in a 2000 hyundai tiburon? I cant get to the bottom nut from under the hood and no way to reach it under the car?Changing the fuel filter?
Under the hood? Are you sure that's the fuel filter your unhooking? Normally on those vehicles there right near the fuel tank.Changing the fuel filter?
find a way to get under the car sorry thats the only way without other expensive tools..Changing the fuel filter?
If access is the problem maybe you can remove some accesories like the air filter housing and the air duct.I'm not sure if it's the same as hyundai lantra or elantra. Being both hyundai I'll make this assumption.( the fuel line is pressurize so the first time you crack it the fuel could squirt in you eyes or face, so make sure you look away or wear an eye protection. it's not really bad you just have to be aware of it.Or the proper way to do it is to disable your fuel pump by disconnecting the electrical wire or the fuse and start your car until it stop.but I don't think it's necessary}.The fuel filter is in vertical position with the inlet on the bottom and outlet on top. To undo the bottom you need two spanner one to hold the filter and the other to undo the nut,.the one that is next to the base of the filter is part of the filter so (that is only to hold it while turning the other) the one that you turn is the bottom nut.Once you loosen it then you can undo them both completely and just remove and replace.Be sure to put the washer properly or it can leak after you install it.I hope this was helpful.

How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?

I discover oil leakage from my car oil filter and my oil level is now btw L and F of the oil guage. This was due to improper tighten of the filter which I have rectified now i.e proper tighten now. My meter reads 1500km from last service date. Should I change the oil now or top it to the F mark? Pls advise me.

ThanksHow frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
Do what your car's owner's manual says to do. It tells you what maintenance intervals. The fuel filter can go as long as 80,000 miles as long as you haven't ever run out of fuel and emptied the fuel tank. That causes the fuel filter to plug up and it needs replacing then. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
just fill it to the oil mark. the proper oil change should be done at 3000 to 3500 miles(not into kilometers) ok fuel filter on new car as in brand new first 5000mi. then every 15000mi.(unless it's done by toyota's service standards- which they require every 10000mi. that's why they last as long as they do. belts every 15000 to 20000mi. brakes every 20000 to 25000mi. anti freeze every 25000 to 30000mi. spark plugs every 25000 to 30000mi. transmission every 25000mi. differentials every 20000 to 25000mi. if you do this type of maintenance on your vehicle it will last you up to 10 to 15 years. because you will still need to do other types of work. that can't be done unless you have all the tools necessary. and proper work place. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
Do you mean the oil guage indicator on the dipstick? If so yes, fill your oil up to the full mark. Make sure to use the correct oil.

If your not on about the F mark on the dipstick then Ive never heard of an oil guage in a car apart from the oil pressure and temperature guage which is completely different that doesn't relate to your oil LEVEL.

Top the oil up, the oil should be changed usually every 10,000/15,000km since last change. Check your owners manual!!!How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
Top it off, you should be fine. If you were only loosing a small amount of oil over a long amount of time then there really isn't the possibility of dirt getting into the loose filter...so I would simply top it up to the full line.

What's this about fuel filter...? Did you want to know when you should change your fuel filter too? If so, this can largely depend on the quality of gas you are getting for your car...it's pretty common to replace a fuel filter every 60,000km - 100,000km (or 40,000m - 60,000miles)How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
Oil need to be change based on oil type u have use, more good oil quality as synthetic oil will be more longer to ur next oil change. And oil filter need to be change for every 10000 km and if u change ur oil type and or brand, evasive unlucky reaction from the chemical in the oil. For ur case, if ur last service has include oil changing, then u only need to add same oil to F level. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
If you are ever unsure do the safest and cleanest option available, IE change your oil. Then write down your mileage and put that in the glove box. You should change regular oil every 3 months or 5,000 miles and for synthetic blends change every 4 or 5 months or 6,000+ miles. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
unless you drive under extreme conditions (dust, high heat, heavy traffic, extreme cold, towing) you should only need to change your oil every 8000km. just refill it and keep track of the level, but don't worry about it.How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
replace oil 5000 miles or before

fuel filter once a year best but depends on where its at most in tank last a long time does need it til you have a problem with it

if its tiem to replace oil change it if not just add to top offHow frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
If you can afford it then do the filter and oil change now then every 3000 miles is the suggested interval for optimal engine life. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?

How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?

My car is running funny and someone told me to check the filter, but before i go ripping off my gas tank i was wonder what a car runs like when it needs changed? How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?
first off you fuel filter can be anywhere depending on what type of car it is, yes most cars have one in the tank but also a main filter somewhere in line between the gas tank and the motor. What kind of car is it? It is a good idea to replace your fuel filter, once it starts to get restricted it puts extra strain on your fuel pump and can take out your fuel pump. But assuming its a late model fuel injected car.......I doubt your fuel filter is causing a poor running condition. It is possible, but from my experience I have RARELY seen a fuel filter cause any sort of poor performance. How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?
runs dies runs dies splits pops dies runs dies bucks jumps pops dies give gas it dont go but fuel filters need to be change once a year or more... and most offen really now days where peolpe are running tank slow and stations running tanks low means more chances there trash cost like five bucks and most anyone can replace it easy and not all of them are inside the tankHow will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?

Most likely it will idle fine, but will bog down when trying to accelerate. Even if these aren't your symptoms, changing the filter is a cheap and easy maintenance item, that should probably be replaced anyhow.

How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?
They hesitate when you give it gas from a take off..they miss when you accelerate going down the road, sorta just miss all the time. You sure your filter is in the tank???How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?
Fuel filter has nothing to do with the gas tank. It is not near the tank even. It is located near the engine. When the engine is cold, find the filter, there are two small hosepipe, one joins from top the other pipe joins on the bottom, discard the old one and replace with the new one. It is only 20 mins job. Make sure to put some rags under the fuel line when you disconnect it as there may be some petrol dripping. You will notice smooth running of your car after you have replaced it.How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?
GEEZE%26gt;...WHAT kind of car???How will my car run if the fuel filter needs changed?

Along the frame on the left side of the truck, it's a round canister that you have to take off with a oil filter wrench.Where is my fuel filter?
Round canister mounted on the inboard frame...true. An oil filter wrench to remove it... false. Use a pair of needle nosed pliers for the two small plastic fork-style holders, maybe a small flat screwdriver. DO NOT LOSE or TEAR UP the fork clamps. Use a 5/16 nut driver on the metal band clamp. don't get directly under the truck as you don't want to take a fuel bath... Don't get the Fram (toilet paper in a beer can) spend the extra 3 bux and get a motorcraft.

How did I mess up changing my fuel filter?

I have a 1991 toyota mr2. It was having a problem stalling out, but would usually start right back up, and sometimes it would take 10 or 15 times or a rolling start, but it would always start. I suspected it was the fuel filter. i put a ton of fuel injector cleaner and it stopped stalling completely, but I wanted to change the filter anyway, since it was probably filthy. I changed the fuel filter myself, and it seemed pretty simple, but now the car won't start. I didn't put it in upside down or swith the fuel lines, I'm sure. The only thing I didn't do was replace the bolts or washers, which everybody says you have to do, but I don't understand why. The only thing i could think of is that I misaligned the bolt with the fuel line (the bolt has a little hole in it, which should align with the fuel line) this makes sense, I'm going to try to align them tomorrow. any other suggestions? How did I mess up changing my fuel filter?
Did you change plugs? If you dumped that store bought cleaner in you may of fouled plugs sobad they re not getting electric from wires. Check wires and see if getting ignition nd if it is then check plugs. It is hard to mess up filter.

i have a 97 ford ranger that im changing the fuel filter on i have from the tank to the filter changed but cant get from the filter to the engine hose off how do i do it1997 ford ranger fuel filter?
If you are referring to the steel connector style (instead of the plastic clip like you would have on the back, which you can snap off with a screwdriver and replace with the ones supplied in the new filter package), there is a special tool required. It looks like a pair of scissors, and usually comes with 5/16 and 3/8 tube sizes on either end. Most auto parts stores carry it, and should know the tool if you ask them for %26quot;the special tool for Ford fuel filters%26quot;. Slip it over the filter end, slide it into the steel connector, wiggle and swear a bit, and eventually it will disconnect. They can be frustrating, but they eventually come loose. I promise.1997 ford ranger fuel filter?
ASE is right on. Here's an article showing the tool and the procedure for changing the filter. The article shows an F-150, but it's the same principle. Hope this helps.

Changing the fuel filter more than likely has NOTHING to do with the problem you are experiencing now. And yes, you are correct in your statement that it does NOT have to be bled after fuel filter replacement since these engines use HIGH PRESSURE engine oil to control fuel delivery. This is why regular engine oil changes are EXTREMELY crucial on these particular engines. It sounds as though you have an injector dropping off, and/or a cylinder is not contributing. You'll need to have it scanned for DTCs to determine the problem area first and foremost. A generic %26quot;code reader%26quot; will probably not suffice, as you may end up needing to run a KOER cylinder contribution test as well as a KOEO injector buzz test to determine the cause of your symptom by the sounds of things. Common problem areas on 7.3L engines are burned out UVC wire harnesses and water intrusion into the IDM causing its failure. You'll need to have this diagnosed by an EXPERIENCED tech to solve your issue. Hope this helps.

ADDED: DO NOT use epoxy or silicone to seal the cap. Doing so will result in damage to your HEUI injectors! At about $600 EACH, I highly doubt you would want to be replacing too many of them.Help, 7.3 liter fuel filter changed now I have problems.?

2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?

My engine dies out when it needs additional fuel to get over bridges and overpasses. It acts like it's starving for fuel; so I think I will start by changing the fuel filter. Where do I locate the fuel filter on the vehicle, and how difficult will it be to change it?2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?
Stay safe.. take it to a reputable service garage or better ..your Chevy dealership. A few bucks spent wisely can save you gas mileage and possible hundreds more if you foul up something major as you try to change this filter.

Who knows??? Your engine might need tuning or even diagnostics.2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?
look under your vehicle on the drivers side by the frame, it should be a round filter and theres 2 lines you have to take off, but make sure you releave the pressure first, by taking off the gas cap.2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?
Its easy, its below the drivers side, its located on the frame. It will be probably below the back door. it has one fuel line %26quot;metal tubing' running into one side and out the the other. Its about the size of your fist.2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?
it is located along the inside of the drivers side frame rail, to change it you only need a couple of wrenches, just try to avoid getting sprayed with the initial fuel pressure release.2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?
Follow the fuel line from the fuel tank towards the engine till you see a soda can sized canister , it should have a metal strap around it holding it to the frame. The lines are under pressure so run the truck then pull the fuel pump fuse while its still running. Use line wrenches so you don't round down the fittings on the fuel lines. Some gas will drip out so do this in a well ventilated area. Its not hard to change but it might be hard to get off, spray some penetrating oil( PB Blaster) on it to dissolve any rust around the fittings. Install the new fuel filter ( arrow pionting towards the engine), replace the fuel pump fuse and start it up and check for leaks. The fuel filter might be about $15.00 dollars. If you can't find it...I have heard of some cars/trucks that do have the fuel filter in the fuel tank, thats not a job for most car/truck owners.2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?
Ans 1 is correct. 15mm wrench needed.

hold the big nut with one wrench while you use another wrench to loosen your fuel line. How do you change a in-line fuel filter on a 67%26039; Buick lesabre?
with two tools one to hold the back one one to turn the front one... one will screw out you can also hold the front one and trun out the back one but you have to break it loose before replacing it.. i always broke the back one loose then hold the front one and twist it back and forth a few times you have to work it easy but it will come off.... and then there is the old way of doing it .. cut the medal line then un screw it and just put a rubber hose in placeHow do you change a in-line fuel filter on a 67%26039; Buick lesabre?
hold the largest one with a wrench and turn the smaller one, use a wrench that fits properly and preferably a line wrench if you have one, they are soft metal and strip easily, you may have to wiggle the smaller one back and forth when it comes loose so it spins on the fuel line and doesn't try to twist it. They fuel line will have some give to it so it bends a little to get it clear of the carb.

I Dont Kno How To Do It?????I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. Help!?
the fuel pump is located on top of the gas tank tank. there are two straps that hold the tunk up. un bolt them, recomend PB Blaster. lower the tank, un cliping or disconnecting any hoses holing the tank up. electical, filler and breather hoses, to the engine and return lines. slide it out, remove the retainer ring around the pump, lift out old slide in new. repeat in reverse for install. the filter is a cylinder that is located on probably a metal line under your passenger side frame. the line is connected to the tank. just unbolt it at bothe ends and replace. id check the filter first. if it starts, then its the filter, if it wont its the pump. the filter should be replaced either way though. good luck.I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. A good rule of thumb is to clean the air filter every third tank of gas. When cutting dry pine and ceder, which produces much finer chips and has a dusty bark, you may want to clean the filter more often. The gas filter shouldn't have to cleaned but once a season.I've been logging for sixteen years and found this to be the best method. Also remove the cover plate (where you adjust the chain tension) and clean out around the clutch and oil passages on a regular basis.Don't forget the bar groove where the chain travels,it can plug-up restricting oil from lubricating the bar. Try to fill the new filter container up with diesel fuel before reinstalling it if possible to make bleeding the air from the fuel line easier. Look for an air bleeder screw you open when you first crank the engine to purge the line of air.

After you install the new filter, you simply just start the vehicle. No priming of the line is required! When you first turn the key on, the pump will run for a few seconds. The air in the fuel line will work it self out when it hits the pressure regulator.

I have never used, seen, or even heard of a priming wire for the fuel pump; what book did you find this in?

Changing the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?

need a little help with my fuel filter out of my 1976 chevy cheyenn pick up truck with a small block 400 and a 2 berrel carb when i go to take the filter out it starts to spray gass how do i get it to stop spraying gass so i can change the filtersChanging the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?
Usually the filter in those is located in the front of the carb, you will need two wrenches, can't remember the exact size to keep one from trying to tighten while the other is loosening. It won't spill alot from this, just wipe it up with a rag. Otherwise someone may have added an inline filter, just get it off, and back on as quickly as possible.Changing the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?
hmmm not sureChanging the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?
A carbed system won't have much residual pressure in the lines, your problem is probably very simple. My guess is that your fuel filter is located lower on the truck than the fuel tank, so when you remove the filter you're basically just allowing the tank to drain. Get a fuel hose clamp or clamp the hose shut with some vise grips or something of the sort, and that should solve the problem.

If that's not the problem, then maybe you do have some fuel pressure left over from when the truck was running, in which case you need to relieve that pressure somehow.... remove the gas cap

Changing my fuel filter, what do i do?

tomorrow im changing my fuel filter, but i heard you have to relive pressure from the fuel system, how do i do this?

any tips/hints?Changing my fuel filter, what do i do?
Remove the fuel filler cap to release the vapor pressure from the fuel tank.

Place a flat pan under the filter to catch the fuel which will come out when the lines are loosened, use two wrenches ( one on the hex on the filter - the other on the line nut ) to loosen the fuel lines, Remove the filter mounting bolt/screw if one exists. Reverse procedure to install new filter. Re-tighten the fuel cap.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without cranking the engine.

Wait 10 seconds. Switch the ignition OFF for 5 seconds. This will operate the in tank fuel pump to prime the fuel filter.

Start the engine, it may stumble for a few moments as any remaining air is purged out.Changing my fuel filter, what do i do?
You relieve the pressure by taking the gas cap off. When you're done, just tighten the cap. Easy, right?Changing my fuel filter, what do i do?
When your car sits overnight or for a long period of time it will lose its pressure. Now when finished just turn the key on and off a few times to prime the lines.Changing my fuel filter, what do i do?
Near the air intake, the fuel line will usually has a fuel pressure test port. This port looks like it has a tire valve cap on it ( only the cap is larger ). cover or wrap this stem with a rag and depress the valve core. The fuel BUILT UP by the fuel pump will then bleed down. You should disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery before you start this job.

Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?

i've been doing this for a long time ,you tell me if this is a good idea or not : when reading the instructions they always suggest to release the fuel system pressure before changing your fuel filter this is what i do: i open the gas tank cap and then introduce half way a medium size screw driver to keep the gas tank neck open,is this a good thing to do to keep the fuel system unpressurized or maybe this doesn't make any sense to you, your opinion please, tanks in advanceQuestion about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?
that does not release the fuel pressure. the best way is to remove the fuel pump fuse or relay and then crank the engine over for a few seconds. that will release any pressure so the fuel doesnt spray you in the face when you pop off the fuel line.Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?
if it is fuel injected, on the fuel rail near the motor where it splits or near the first injector is a valve.that is where you release the pressure.they recommend the fuel pressure tester to release pressure..but you can use a screw driver and a rag to release it.you wrap the line with the rag and put the screw driver in the valve with the rag covering it so gas does not spray all over. remember the pressure is 14 to 22 lbs so gas is going to shoot outQuestion about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?
If you have a schrader valve type fitting on the fuel rail that's used for attaching a fuel pressure gauge, then press the center pin in to release some pressure with a rag to catch the fuel. If not, then I'd just gradually remove the filter connectors. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves.Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?
What you're doing will not relieve pressure in the fuel line. But unless you're in a diesel, the fuel pressure is nothing to worry about. You can relieve pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine 'till it quits, or you can just put a rag over the fitting so it won't squirt in your eyes, and you'll just get a few tablespoons of gas on your hand.Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?
    Steven's suggestion is right on.

Also, the fuel pressure at the rail is at least 40 PSI. Not something I would care to catch with a rag as yor skin absorbs gasline very easily. YUM!

The pressure that is to be released is between the pump and injectors, so leaving the fuel cap off only makes you feel better after clicking your heels a few times and ending up in Kansas.

Yes, but as you slowly turn the wrenches to loosen the fuel filter lines, the gas will simply start squirting out. It won't keep draining for long. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves. If it's not true how do I go about getting this taken care of? ANY guidance on this would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE = )Do I have to have the WHOLE fuel pump replaced just to change the fuel filter on my 04 Pont Grand am?
The fuel filter on a 2004 pontiac grand am is located under the drivers-side rear seat just in front of the rear wheel. It is a silver cylinder. You can't miss it. In fact if you can lie on your back and have two wrenches you can replace it your self in 10 minutes.

    Look for something like this.

    http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-GF847-Fuel

Now in the tank there is a sock filter - it is on the pump to keep sticks and stuff out of the pump. Sock filters are pretty coarse and are intended to last the lifetime of the car. They are big with a lot of area

See the big white thing here.

    http://www.amazon.com/Carter-P74105HP-Fu

If your car needs a fuel filter, then the fuel pressure is low. Your car will be hard to start or won't accelerate too well. If the sock is clogged you;'ll have the same symptoms.

I wouldn't replace the sock until the real fuel filter is replaced.

    Could be clogged injectors.

If you have an auto parts palce nearby, have them pull the codes for you off your diag port.I have a 94 sunfire that is sputtering and really boggy. i change the fuel filter and it has gotten worse.?
When you ask a question, be sure to include the type of motor as it makes a difference in the answer and in this case it does. If you don't have a shraeder valve at the motor area, you will be running a four cylinder and that would make this a TBI which means the fuel pressure at idle will be 12-15 psi. If this is a V-6 motor, there is a schraeder valve and it runs at 35-45 psi. It could be the fuel pump and you are right in trying to diagnose it first as this is a costly and time consuming job. If you get the pressure and it is not right, you will have to change out the pump and in-tank strainers. If it is not the pump as in the pressures are good, I would have a throrough look at all secondary ignition outputs and the condition of the wires, coils, and spark plugs and make a determination from there. Good luck.

How do I change the fuel filter on 94 buick regal 3800?

I tried following the manual to do this and ended up with a bunch of gas in my eyes (thank god for safety goggles). I had relieved the pressure in the fuel lines by removing the gas cap, taking out the fuse and turning the key for a few seconds. When gas started spraying I just tightened it back up, and walked away. But I can not see spending $100 for something that seems so simple, should I just put a rag over the filter, or am I missing an important step. Also, when turning the key, how do I know when I have attempted to start the car long enough to relieve the fuel pressure? How do I change the fuel filter on 94 buick regal 3800?
    Hey,

The book says to remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine, actually let it run until it dies. Now from experience I will tell you that there will still be some fuel in the line so like you suggested take a good thick rag and rap it around to keep fuel from getting on you and pull it off.Once you get it off there will be a little fuel drain out so you may want to get a catch pan.

When you replace the filter and get it secured go replace the fuse and turn the key to the on position and let the pump run until you hear it stop then repeat this step 3-4 times while making sure you have no leaks the start the engine and check for leaks one more time.I hope this is helpful. How do I change the fuel filter on 94 buick regal 3800?

How do I change the fuel filter on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts very rarely and after it starts, it stalls within 5 seconds. I have replaced all wires, plugs, cap and rotor and it did not help. I'm going to replace the fuel filter and see if that fixes the problem.

The problem is, I've never done this before. How hard is this and where is the filter located?

I'd take it to a shop but it doesn't run and I am too cheap to pay for a tow truck. How do I change the fuel filter on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
The best thing to do is to take it back to the dealer or wherever you got it from and have them fix it because even though it will be expensive its worth it.

I own a 2.4L Toyota diesel and may have contaminated the fuel when changing a filter, how will I know?

Changing out the fuel filter I filled it back up with diesel that may have had dirt in it. How will I know if I've gotten debris into the fuel system? Will it clog my injectors, could it possibly make it to the pistons? It probably wasn't over half a gallon but it may have had some dirt in it. I just can't afford a rebuild at this time.I own a 2.4L Toyota diesel and may have contaminated the fuel when changing a filter, how will I know?
From what you are saying you are worried that the fuel tank has dirt in it, well the good news is that the dirt is on the right side of the fuel filter!

You're fuel filter will stop the dirt getting from the fuel tank to the engine.

However if you are really paranoid then drain the tank out, re-seal, fill it with 3 gallons of clean diesel, bounce the truck up and down by hand and re-drain the fuel. Now re-fill with a couple of gallons of clean diesel and rive to the gas station to fill up properly and your done!I own a 2.4L Toyota diesel and may have contaminated the fuel when changing a filter, how will I know?
if your that worried about it dont start it and take the filter back out and pop a new oneback in, if the filter doesnt collect it , it would prossibly clog the injectors

Fuel filter? Do you mean OIL filter? your fuel filter shouldn't go bad on a 2004 model. Still under warranty? How do I changed my fuel filter...?
Nope. Don't touch it unless you are a mechanic or engineer. You're going to end up killing yourself. I don't care if you're short on money. This is not something you touch if you're not mechanically inclined. How do I changed my fuel filter...?
I cannot verify currently the location of your fuel filter. It will be in 1 of 3 places. If it is in the engine bay It will look like a small can with a line going in top under a bolt and a line coming from the bottom going to the Fuel rail. If it is under the car it will be a small can with a hose hose clamped to each end. and if its in the tank its rather hard to change but I will tell you just to answer your question. I suggest having a mechanic friend or pro handle it if its there. To take it out of the tank, You will most likely need to depressurize the system by removing the efi relay under hood and run the engine until it dies on its own. then try to start it a few times. then disconnect the battery. in the trunk under the carpet and maybe spare tire there will be a small panel held in place by some bolts/screws. undo them and underneath is your fuel tank, there will be a circle with connectors coming out the top. you will have to unbolt it and lift out the fuel pump assembly. In the assembly will be the filter, the pump, and most likely the fuel level sender with float. Sometimes you have to replace it as a unit I am not sure on your car. If you don't you can replace the filter if you do You will have to buy a new unit at a store and swap the fuel lines onto it and electrical connections etc. For tools you will need sockets ( My guess would be metric around a 17 but not sure ) a flathead if you need to take off the hose clamps, and 10s or 12mm socket for the panel and tank cover in trunk. If you have to take off the lines to the fuel pump you will need a fuel line clamp and A lot of luck. I personally wouldn't mess with it unless you HAVE to. Any questions Ill be around. Oh and if they are in the engine or under the car depressurize the system and simply unbolt/unclamp them, and replace the way they came out. Make sure flow is correct way. -mike.

P.S. After searching it looks like the fuel filter Might be the under the chasis kind. Look something like this :http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Hyundai/Accent/Hastings/Fuel_Filter/2004/HAGF346.html?tlc=Engine+%26+Drivetrain , do depressureize the system and find it.

  • How easy is it to change the spark plugs on a bmw 523i e39 ?

is it a diy job or am i best just leaving it to the pro's .Also need to change fuel filter how easy are they???????How easy is it to change the spark plugs on a bmw 523i e39 ?
Spark plug should be easy enough for average home mechanic. Just don't strip the aluminum block - use the anti-seize and torque wrench!!! I would also spray Wd40 into the spark plug whole and let it sit for a minute before taking them out. I would use Bosch or NGK plug for this car. Also don't be surprised when half of these plug holes are buried in oil. It is a common problem for this car to leak the oil from the failed plug gasket. Replacing the ring gasket is another 40 minute job, and you would have to do several times for life of the car. If you torque down the plugs properly, it would not get bad enough to stall the car.

I would leave the fuel filter to a mechanic. Usually 5 series fuel filter is located near the rear sub-frame. But for these cars, I think is located under the driver seat. It is supported by small sub-frame and is pain in the butt to take it out. If you are experienced in replacing fuel filter for other cars, it should be straight forward. Otherwise, leave it up a mechanic. They have lifters that would make this job much easier. How easy is it to change the spark plugs on a bmw 523i e39 ?
Sang K have pretty much got everything covered.

If you should decide to do the fuel filter yourself, make sure you DEPRESSURIZE the fuel line before you start! Or you'll end up spraying fuel at high pressures all over the place and possibly in your face/eyes (gasoline in your eyes = very painful = NOT GOOD).

Do this by pulling out the fuel pump fuse and starting the car, rev it till it dies out. Even after this, you should wear a pair of goggles when you undo the fuel line hose from the filter because there may still be some pressure left in there.

For the spark plugs, you can buy small packs of anti-seize from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts (presumably the same place where you would buy your spark plugs) for $1 or so. 2 packets should be enough.

since it would be a 10-minute job for any good mechanic (half-hour for the common man with a scissor jack) 20 dollars. they will probably hit you for more than that and say you need a fuel pump, new pressure regulator and some lines replaced so they can get a few hundred out of you though.

How to change the fuel filter on a ML430?

You do not need to remove the back seat. You have to remove the back wheel and the plastic innner wheel well though. It may be hard to manuver in the small space were the filter is if you have large hands. You will need to depress the tabs on the lines where they connect to the filter. There are 2 of them on each line that are 180 degrees from each other. Chances are you have new lines that came with the filter. They made a change in the filter to a longer one and the lines need to be used to fit it.

Make sure you connect the lines to the filter before setting it in place.

After filter is in place. Turn the ignition on and off about 6 times to prime the new filter.

If you don't and try to start it, it will trip an engine code. The code is no big deal if you do trip it but you need a special tool to reset the computer.

Unfortunately, with EFI motors, the only real way to diagnose a fuel problem is with a CDS scan from a dealer. If it runs smooth at 3200, it may be a TPS fault, but it also may be about 20 other things. You say it idles erratic, if it is rough running at idle and top end, start by checking for spark on all 4 cylinders. There is a filter on the port side, tucked in along the wiring harness, but you should be able to see that one, if not, follow the fuel line with your hand.2004 merc. 50hp 4 stroke efi-in line fuel filter change?

Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?

I'm not a mechanic by any means...I'm good with changing oil, brake pads, spark plugs, some belts and could do an alternator....but I'm not certain if I should try the transmission fluid or take it to a garage???? Also, I looked in my Haynes book and seems like the fuel filter sits on top of the fuel tank and I will have to go back and look but I think I remember reading something about a hatch under the back seat to change the fuel filter so you don't have to drop the tank. Anyone ever try these two things and how difficult would it be??Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?
    Personally, I don't think a 2002 needs a gas filter change. I wouldn't bother.

As for transmission fluid, I would change it at about the 75,000 mile mark.

First, purchase only fluid made for that vehicle from the dealer - don't buy a generic substitute at the auto store! The Honda's are very fussy about the fluid. I wouldn't take a chance on ruining the trans by buying a cheap replacement fluid.

It is very easy to change it. Just put a catch pan under the trans and remove the plug to drain the fluid. It is true that you will not drain 100% of the fluid this way, but replacing 80% of it gives your trans mostly new fluid in it. This is what I do. The service stations try to sell you a flushing of the system, but it is expensive (they have to pay for the expensive machine).

If you are really concerned about getting all of the old fluid out you can flush it yourself. Here's how: Buy twice the amount of fluid (8 containers instead of 4). Find the trans inlet cooling tube on the bottom of the radiator and crack it open to allow fluid to escape. Start the car and let it idle while filling with new fluid. When you think half of the fluid has been passed through, secure the cooling tube and top off the fluid. It's still a lot cheaper than having a flush done.Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?
if you don't know how to change it, take it to mavis tires or somewhereHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?
alot of times with a 'drain and fill' method for switching up ur tranny fluid, you will only end up replacing about 50-75% of the fluid, is your trans auto or manual? If it's an auto, I would reccomend just bringing it into a quick lube shop, most of them have t-tec machines that go straight into the dipstick hole, and will replace 100% of the trans fluid. Also, for your fuel filter, I can't remember if the 2002's still have the fuel filter located under the hood by the firewall, if your FF is there, it is an extremely easy job to do, you will just need some open box end wrenches, and vice gripsHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?
dude dont do it your self, tranny is something you dont wanna mess with, unless you have money for a new one... I think you have to blow and flush all the fluid out b4 you put in the new one, its not like changing motor oil so just take it to the dealer so you have the warranty on it aswell

Can someone please tell me what how do a car reacts when its time to change the fuel filters? What are possible effects of having a bad fuel filter on a car?
A fuel filter could be the problem, but it is more likely that you are having an ignition problem, and a plug is either not firing, or firing out of sequence. Change your plugs, make sure your plug wires are going to the correct cylinder, and that they make good contact with the plugs, and make sure your plugs are well connected at the distributor. You may have a bad plug, a bad plug cable, water in the distributor, or a valve cover gasket that is allowing oil into a cylinder. If it is the latter, one of the plugs you pull should have oil all over the bottom of it.What are possible effects of having a bad fuel filter on a car?

How important is changing your fuel filter?

The owner's manual said to change it at 60,000 miles. I drive a 2003 Ford Focus with a 2.0 DOHC I-4. I didn't change it. Are they expensive? Will my engine erupt in a fireball if I don't change it?How important is changing your fuel filter?
On a scale of 1 to 5; with 5 being the most important, changing the fuel filter is about a 4.

At 60k miles, your focus should more on regular oil %26amp; filter changes and other preventive maintenance.

The fuel filter is not expensive and should be easy to replace. Your engine is not likely to suffer any damage (erupt in a fireball) if you don't change it.

While I don't think it will cause your engine to burst into flames I do believe that changing it will help to increase your gas mileage and it will help you engine to last longer. How important is changing your fuel filter?
I had a Plymouth Sundance and decided to obey the owner's manual. I asked a mechanic to change the fuel filter. It cost me about $70. The car ran terrible for many months after that. Sure wish I had never done it!

Now I'm back to the old wisdom: %26quot;Don't fix it if it ain't broke.%26quot;How important is changing your fuel filter?
Please do not worry. Nothing will go wrong with your engine and it will NOT erupt in a fireball.

Air filters are not expensive, and since I do not know your market I cannot comment on the price.

Air filters merely clean the air entering your engine by removing sand and dust which are abrasive in nature when they enter the insides of an engine. Delaying the change will only result in a bit of rich fuel mixture, since the shortage of air (with a choked filter) will tend to draw in more fuel per each engine cycle. I would suggest that you change the air filter at your convenience as soon as possible, yet do not worry about it unduly.

In our part of the world if we do not wish to change the air filter, we merely remove it and blow compressed air from inside out which blows out the deposits and makes it good for a few more miles. But we do change it subsequently. How important is changing your fuel filter?
Your car won't blow up or anything, but if you fail to replace the filter, impurities will eventually find their way into the fuel lines, the injectors, etc... It is considerably less expensive to replace the fuel filter as opposed to replacing or repairing fuel system components.

How do i change fuel injectors on my '95 plymouth neon?

I have a '95 Plymouth Neon SOHC 2.0 manual transmition. I've been advised to change the fuel injectors due to a starting problem. (car cranks but won't start (already changed fuel pump and filter)). I've got a hold some new injectors and i want to try them out before i send the car away to a junk yard. Any general instructions will definitely come in handy.

THX...How do i change fuel injectors on my %26039;95 plymouth neon?
you would have to have a heck of injector fault for that to be the problem. Do yourself a favor of spending the cash and goto local parts store and ask if they have a %26quot;noid%26quot; light for the injector on that car. Most places like autozone sell them for around 8 bucks.

Unplug an injector and plug that into the plug. have someone try to start the car and notice if the light flashes. If it doesnt %26quot;and I bet it doesnt%26quot; then its not the injectors.

Also, does it have spark? You might have a crank sensor or even a timing belt problem.

You can have an injector flooding a cylinder, but it shoudl at leats try to start. never have I seen all injectors dump at once. so do as I mentioned above.

Feel free to email me from my profile and let me know if you have spark and noid light, I can tell you where to go from there.

But seriously, noid light it before replacing injectors. How do i change fuel injectors on my %26039;95 plymouth neon?
Very simple. I pulled mine off about 3 years ago when I installed a new intake manifold and from what I recall, there are only 2 or 3 screws holding the fuel injector rail in place. Once you have taken those out and removed the fuel line from the rail, unclipped the electrical plugs from the injectors, and release the fuel pressure from the rail ( very important, otherwise you could be soaked in fuel ), the whole assembly ( including the injectors ) comes off. You would then remove the injectors individually from the rail.

How to change the fuel filter on an expedition 03???

well it has a cover in it what do i need to open that cover?? what are the tools i need??How to change the fuel filter on an expedition 03???
A flat bladed screwdriver inserted into the cover tabs and turned slightly, while pulling down on the cover. The fuel lines connect to the fuel filter with plastic clips in the lines. There are three lines connected to the filter. There is a plastic square on the side of the fitting, you need to push the line towards the filter and push in on the plastic square on the side of the fitting, and then pull the line away from the filter while holding in on the plastic square. Cover the line when you remove the line from the filter, the fuel is under pressure and will spray out. After the lines are removed, pull outward on the filter to remove from the bracket.

How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?

I have a 1990 camaro rs. I was just changing my fuel filter and after I got the bolt off for the out end of the filter gas started coming out. I expected a little to come out but it just kept coming in a steady stream so I quickly put the bolt back on. Will gas just keep coming out until I get the new filter in? or will it just stop after a little while. I've got 3/4 of a tank left and I don't want to accidently drain the whole tank. so far I'm guessing about 2 cups worth have came out. what should i do to save gas?How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
NO . IT WILL NOT ALL LEAK OUT....JUST WHAT IS LOADED IN THE LINES...USE A CATCH PAN AND LET IT DRAIN......JUST MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE FILTER IN WITH THE ARROW TOWARDS THE ENGINE...GOOD LUCK!How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
Added to the previous responders... DON'T do it in the garage!

It's one thing to have your car catch fire, but if it happens inside the garage... well, you get the idea. How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
if the fuel pump isnt on then it will prob. stop. theres quite a bit in the filter itself so thats prolly what your seeing. How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
If it's fuel injected, you should have relieved the line pressure before removing the filter bolt.

Here's the way the pros do it. They get vacuum caps in assorted sizes and remove one end of the line and quickly cap it off. Most of the gas will be coming backwards from the fuel rail back down towards the filter. So cap that off first. Then remove the connection to the fuel tank.

    Hope that helps.

  • How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?

I have a 98 Chevy Malibu and need to change the fuel filter....The bolt seems to be very tight and cant take it off....tried alot of things and no luck, i almost make it round....any suggestions? I mean any will help out...How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?
im sure its a metric nut/bolt.if its rounded off and you did use a six point socket, try using a standard socket and pound it on with a hammer, that's if you can get a hammer in their and be able to swing it.other than that a good pair of vise grips and a strong set of arms should do it.How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?
Take a hacksaw, seriously, and cut the bracket on the filter off. The only thing the bracket does is reduce vibrations and support the 1 pound fuel filter. You can then pull the fuel filter off and replace without reconnecting the bracket.

I've had it happen lots of times, never had one fall off.How do i take off the mounting bolt from fuel filter?
take it to a mechanic and ask them to undo it for you and ask them for a new bolt wont cost much if any and less dangerous than cutting the bracket

Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect?

I have located the fuel filter on my cavalier pretty easyily. I depressurized the system, but now I am stuck. There is a HP disconnect that I have never seen. There is a black plastic piece right where the filter inlet connects with the tube. The plastic quick connect thing looks like a soda bottle cap with 4 segments (it looks like they should be squezzed or spreak, but I don't know). I know Im supposed to do something with this, but what? I spent many hours trying to figure out how to get this off... no luck. I went to auto parts store and they gave me the wrong tool, so I don't think they know what Im talking about. Also, the new filter has a different looking connection... does this matter?Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect?
If the line has a plastic female fitting over the inlet/outlet of the fuel filter, then it is a squeeze type fitting (you squeeze the tabs and pull). Problem is, if the filter hasn't been changed in a while, the plastic is dry-rotting, and the filter is rusted solid into the fittings. Easy way out is to get the fuel line repair kit, and cut the filter out.Changing Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? Quick Disconnect?
you can call the dealer and they have most of the times better answers then part stores. They sometimes will even tell you what tool to use. Also you may want to buy a manual for your car. If not looking for the manual sometimes auto part stores have manuals that are open you can peek at this chapter before buying the manual. Good LuckChanging Fuel Filter on a 98 Cavalier? sounds like the squeese thing but if not i think.....look for the triangle shaped plastic piece and pull out from that side. a small screwdriver is easiest. nice word right? they break easy but also are easily replaced.usually come with the filter. and make sure the filter is the same it may not fit or the flow may be in the wrong direction.

How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?

I changed the fuel filter on my 01 Pontiac Grand Am and dirty fuel came out the inlet side of the filter and clean fuel came out the outlet side. Is this common of a clogged fuel filter? How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?
A clogged fuel filter would not provide the proper fuel pressure and fuel volume per unit time even though the fuel pump was functioning properly. Dirt in itself does not mean any filter is bad, including air filters, fuel filters, oil filters etc. In fact, when a filter starts %26quot;loading up%26quot; with particulates (dirt etc), it actually filters better than when it's brand new as long as the minimum pressure and volume are maintained. You can often get 80,000 miles use out of a fuel filter and it will still be providing the pressure and volume required. However, if you run your tank dry, water and sediment from the bottom of the tank can be pumped up into the filter, so it's recommended that you change the filter if you run out of fuel. How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?
if the filter is out side the fule tank then just take the filter loos and check the presser from the fule pump if you changed it and you thing the new one is pluged make shure you put it on the right way thare shood be a flow arrow on the filter hope this helpedHow to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?
very common .you could blow threw it and then blow threw the new one and compare ,or you could cut the old filter up and see how dirty it was.How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?
