How do I change the fuel filter on my 95 ranger xlt 2.3L reg cab/bed 2WD?

I have located the filter and bought the special tool to remove the filter but I can't figure out how to use this tool. Also it says to relieve the pressure from the fuel system...and of course I don't know how to do that either. I need a LOT of help!! Also, is changing the fuel filter on my 95 the same as changing one on a 98? My brother has a 98 and we need to change his too. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and hopefully answer my question. Have a great day!How do I change the fuel filter on my 95 ranger xlt 2.3L reg cab/bed 2WD?
ok the tool is simple here is that u do the tool has a little insert and the filter line has what i am goin to call an hemisphere fitting spray wd 40 in the fitting on the inside to loosen rust and corrosion next take the tool put it around the line with the insert goin into the hemispere there are four little clips in that hemisphere that the tool is going to compress so ull have to push fairly hard and hold it in second take the line and twist it as u do this to help break the rust and corrosion away then push the line as far toward the filter as it will go u will feel it kinda click i guess is what i will say when that happens pull the line away from the filter its simple if someone can show u its hard to explain HOPE THIS HELPS as far as the pressure goes there is a schrader valve on the fuel rail under the hood where the injectors get there feed from push the valve like u would to let air out of a tire it looks just like a tire valve on a fordHow do I change the fuel filter on my 95 ranger xlt 2.3L reg cab/bed 2WD?
yes they are the same to relieve pressure there is a cap under your hood on the top of the motor that looks like a tire valve take the cap off press the lil thing inside (watch your face this will spray gas) now the filter the tool fits in the filter press it in as far as you car and squeez the tool twist the filter and pull the same time it should come off repeat fot the other side

Is this something I should do myself? Or should I take it to a mechinic. If I should take it.....can you sugget anyone in the Hattiesburg/laurel ms area. How do you change the fuel filter in a 2002 nissan altima?
If I were you and in your situation, I would definitely take the car in to a mechanic. It might take a little more to be fixed, but most manufacturers and safety experts recommend that you take it in for something like that. A friend of mine did his by himself and wound up putting it on the wrong way. I disagree with the answerer who said that you should have learned to do this stuff before driving the car because while you should know how to change your own oil and flat tires, a fuel filter should be left to someone who has been trained on how to do it. What I would recommend as far as the mechanic, go to the Nissan dealership in your area. They know your car. Don't take it to a quick lube shop or places like that. My fiancee took her car to a quick lube shop to get the transmission fluid replaced and we wound up having to have the car towed to another shop to have the problems they caused repaired. Be careful and good luck. How do you change the fuel filter in a 2002 nissan altima?
Unless you want to mess with gas take it in. Any oil changing place should be able to do it.How do you change the fuel filter in a 2002 nissan altima?
Read your owners manual.... That is the fastest way to learn about your car. You should already have learned how to do that stuff before you started DRIVING the car !!!How do you change the fuel filter in a 2002 nissan altima?

the easiest way to remove the fuel pressure from the fuel line is to simply remove the fuse that goes to the fuel pump and then start vehicle, it will run for a few seconds then go dead, there still may be some fuel in line, it just wont be under any pressure.

Yes, you need a special tool. They can be bought at your local auto parts store and are specifically for Ford car and truck fuel line connections. Where is the fuel filter on my 89 jeep wrangler and how do I change it?

I just bought a 1989 jeep wrangler and wanted to do some basic maintenance on it, besides changing the fuel filter and oil, what are some other cheap things I can do? ThanksWhere is the fuel filter on my 89 jeep wrangler and how do I change it?
It is tucked under/next to the frame rail under the driver side door. You'll need to remove a plate and loosen the holding bracket to free the filter up before you can get at the hoses. Be sure to release any pressure on the fuel system by cracking a hose clamp on the filter. My 90' 2.5L is not fuel injected so not much pressure, but I still had a squirt of fuel. Have a pan and some rags handy as some fuel spill is inevitable. Loosen the clamps and remove the old filter. Replace with new and be sure to install in the right direction.

Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?

I can't find the fuel pump relay and do the: start motor, pull relay, let engine die and fuel line decompress - thing before replacing the filter.Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?
Disconnect battery terminal first. If there is no pressure discharge valve around fuel injector rail, then use a rag or towel around the fuel filter joint and slacken pipe nut gently (anticlockwise) and release pressure. it will only take 5 to 10 seconds to reduce the fuel pressure. Mind you no smoking or sparks when you are working with fuel.Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?
the correct way is to push in the schrader valve located on your fuel rail. it looks like an air stem on a tire. remove the cap and depress the pin in the middle. be careful; use a towel to contain the spray and wear glasses to protect your eyes (i learned the hard way once)Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?

How do you change a fuel filter on a 1991 dodge Dakota?

someone suggested that there is a valve that needs to be turned off before I disconnect the fuel filter. is this true, and if so what does it look like and where is it located? How do you change a fuel filter on a 1991 dodge Dakota?
I have a 1988 Dodge Dakota that I changed the fuel filter on a few weeks ago. There was no valve to turn off. The fuel filter is located on the drivers side under the body about half way down the truck. I had a pan under it when I pulled it off to collect the gas, and make sure you keep your face away when you pull it off, but it was only a small amount of fuel that came out, enough to soak up with a rag. Hope this helps. How do you change a fuel filter on a 1991 dodge Dakota?
The valve they are talking about is to release the fuel line pressure, you cant turn it off, it is for safety purposes and is located under the hood on the fuel injection rail. If you loosen the filter-located like the other man said, under the truck inside the frame rail- you can't miss it. WEAR EYE PROTECTION, loosen it up, let the pressure bleed off, takes a few seconds, then finish removing the filter, reinstall new one and go!

Well you can use large pliers (be careful not to damage the sensor) its a water-in fuel sensor, they also make a special wrench to take it out, i just used %26quot;water pump%26quot; pliers, just be careful you dont bust it!!----

EDIT -- i didnt read that you havent removed the filter from the vehicle yet, there is a connection about 4 in away from the base of the filter, follow the wire off the sensor, its kind of a pain in the a** but you have to disconnect it to get it out

how to replace a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo? Any help I am posting this for my husband and he is outside working on the car right now please help! How to change a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo?
That car should have a 305 V8 with a carburetor, which then would most likely be a Rochester Quadrajet. On the front of the carb, where the fuel line goes in, there is a hollow part that the fuel filter is inside of. At least if it hasn't been replaced with a different one, usually somewhere in the fuel line, between the fuel pump and the carb. The back side of that part will be a hex head, to put a wrench on, usually 1 inch size. That part should be held with a wrench while the fuel line is disconnected from the front, then unscrew that part from the carb. Be careful putting it back on, that the threads don't get crossed, or that it is over-tightened, as they do strip out fairly easy. The paper filter inside goes with the end that has an opening in it towards the fuel line side. Oh, also, there's a spring that goes behind it. That is to say, put that in towards the carb, before the filter. How to change a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo?

Specifically, what steps need to be taken to reduce pressure from fuel system? How do you change the fuel filter on a 2002 Ford Explorer?
Yours is a nightmare and needs to be done preferably by a experienced person.

If you still want to tackle it, you can either disconnect the fuse/relay that powers the fuel pump and start the vehicle till it runs out of gas, or on almost all of them, their is a schrader valve (like a tire valve) on the fuel rail under the plastic cover on top of the motor.. it uses two torx fasteners near the oil filler cap

take the cover off the schrader and depress the valve till all fuel is gone.

Jack up and put jack stands under the vehicle on right side, the fuel filter is under a cover, just behind the right exhaust the cover has two bolts that hold it up (there may be a few more covering some covers) but the fuel filter has two clips that use a fuel line tool (available at the national chain stores like autozone and Napa)to remove.

it pulls out of it's holder.and just reassemble and cycle the key on and off a couple of times to inspect for leaks then start and recheck for leaks.

But IMO, this fuel filter and the one on my old f-150 are the worst ones and is worth paying a professional mechanic for the heartacheHow do you change the fuel filter on a 2002 Ford Explorer?

the fuel filter should be under the right side (when you sit in the driver seat). You will see two metal tubes go into a larger metal tube. The large one is your fuel filter. Get two line wrenches to fit the two nuts and loosen the nuts. Put a bucket under it because there is going to be residual fuel in the line when you disconect it. Take out the old one and tighten the new one in. Replace any brackets that held the old filter in. It may take a second for your car to start afterwards because the lines need to be primed again. Hope that helps. How do I change a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Windstar LX?
FORD FUEL FILTER REQUIRE A SPECIAL TOOL TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC LOCKS AT EACH END OF THE FILTER. OTHERWISE YOU CAN DAMAGE THEM. THEY ARE THE ONLY THING THAT HOLD IT TOGETHER SO THERE NO LEAK.

JACK UP THE VEHICLE AND USE SAFETY STANDS. TAKE SPECIAL TOOL AND DEPRESS THE LOCK. THERE WILL A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS COMING OUT. IT IS THE PRES SUE IN THE FUEL LINE. SO NO SMOKING IN THE AREA. THE OTHER END COME A PART THE SAME WAY. TO INSTALL THE NEW FILTER. PRESS THE LINE INTO THE FILTER. yOU SHOULD HEAR A CLICK. tEST BY TRYING TO PUT THE OUT OF THE FILTER. tHE OTHER END GO THE SAME WAY. IT IS INSTALLED. THIS IMPORTANT! tURN THE KEY ON FIVE OR SIX TIMES. tHIS BUILD THE PRESSURE UP IN THE FUEL LINE. tHEN START THE VEHICLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE FILTER. IF THERE LEAKS THEN CUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE LINES IS NOT ALL THE WAY IN THE FILTER. AND REPEAT THE START UP. tHERE SHOULD BE NO LEAKS AT ALL.How do I change a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Windstar LX?
there is a fuse in the fuse panel... pull the fuse out for the fuel pump relay and then start the engine... let it run until it dies on it's own to take the pressure out of the lines... the fuel filter should be located on the drivers side between the back of the drivers door and the rear tire.... undo the strap holding the filter in place... ford has a %26quot;quick disconnect%26quot; fitting on their filters that take a special tool that can be bought at most parts stores - don't worry they aren't very expensive... that tool fits around the fuel line and slides into the end of the filter sometimes you have to press it in pretty firmly... this will release the lock that keeps the line from falling out... and then gently pull on the fuel line... if it hasn't been changed in several years it can be a real pain in the butt to get to release... do the other side the same way and then push the ends of the fuel line on to the new filter and reattach the strap around the filter... re-install the fuse and turn the key to the on position.... be sure to check for leaks.... hope this helps and good luck with itHow do I change a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Windstar LX?

How easy is it to change the fuel filter?

I have a 1997 Honda Accord that the fuel filter is clogged im believing. How hard will it be to change the fuel filter on my own? i got the filter from the auto store just need to know how hard it will be to get to the filter itself. I know i had a chevy beretta once that was really simple to get to it took about 10 minutes on the side of the road to get out and change, please answer thank you.,

avafanHow easy is it to change the fuel filter?
Your going to have to relive the fuel system pressure first. pull the fuel pump fuse and then crank the engine over, let it run till it dies and then try to start it again just to be sure all fuel pressure is relived.(if you dont do this youll have about 40psi of fuel spraying. this is only an option but it stops fuel spraying and keeps things cleaner.) Im pretty sure your fuel filter is just about on the center of the firewall(slightly towards the passeneger side). Start by removing the fuel line that is connected to the top of the filter. get some towels youll have a little fuel leakage. then remove the fuel line that is connected to the bottom of the filter(or vise versa bottom then top what ever is easiest). then finally remove the two bolts that hold the filter down with the bracket.(or just loose enough to slip the filter out). install in reverse order. replace fuel pump relay/fuse and then turn the car over until it starts. should take you about 15 min if all goes smoothly. good luck!

just found this out...this will help a little more lol removing and replacing should be the same steps. just a different location thats all.

Jack up the rear of the vehicle, or raise it up on a lift. The fuel filter is located rearward of the fuel tank, but forward of the right/rear wheel. It's always best to replace with OEM filter. At $9.74 (part number FG-986-B from Ford), price shouldn't be an issue. The following are the steps for removal and installation.

    Disconnect the evaporative emission pipe.

Remove the fuel filter outlet pipe.

Disconnect the fuel filter inlet pipe.

Remove the 8mm bolt securing the fuel filter and bracket to the body of the vehicle.

    Remove the fuel filter.

    Remove the 7mm bolt.

    Slide out the fuel filter.

    Installation

NOTE: Observe the direction of flow arrow.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Hope this helps. Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?
Fuel filters are different sizes, but the one you have can be blown backward with high pressure air- and re-installed.

The round filter uses two pressure fittings that only need be unscrewed. The filter is on the side of the frame between the

rear tank and the front seats.

Replace it or blow it out- most likely it is not a problem- they only need replacing if someone dumped sugar in your tank.

Take a piece of wire and bend a hook on one end. Use the hook to get a hold of the gas line in the tank and pull it gently to the fill hole. The filter will come off the end of the hose. Put on the new filter and drop it back into the fill hole. Done.

How to change a fuel filter in a 1998 honda civic ex?

i know how to change it but hoiw do i turn off the fuel pump so know fuel comes out?How to change a fuel filter in a 1998 honda civic ex?
Here's how Honda service manuals say to relieve the fuel pressure

    1) Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery

    negative terminal.

    2) Remove the fuel fill cap.

3)Use a box end wrench on the 12 mm banjo bolt at

the fuel filter while holding the fuel filter with another

    wrench.

    4) Place a rag or shop towel over the 12 mm banjo bolt.

    5) Slowly loosen the 12 mm banjo bolt one complete

    turn.

The fuel pressure will push the fuel out of the loosend fitting and onto the rag. You must relieve the pressure before the fuel filter can be removed.

Another way to do it safely is to pull the main relay out of the connector and crank the engine over for about 15 seconds. The main relay controls the fuel pump and the ignition so the car won't start and the fuel pump wont' run but cranking it over should open the injectors to vent some of the pressure that is in the system. The main relay is located under the right side of the dash between the side of the glove box and the side of the car. You'll probably still have some residual pressure in the line but the fuel pump won't run with the relay out.

I did it on my Maxima 92, and it was easy.. just look up for the filter. It's usually behind the motor, near the windshield. Once you know where it is, disconect the hose from both sides of the filter with a screwdriver and place the new one. tight them well, but not overtightened.

-(The filter has an out and an intake flow, make sure you don't reverse those when placing the new one).

-(The hose will have a certain gasoline pressure if your car uses a gas pump, so be careful with your eyes).

-(When you have the old one out, blow through it from the same way gasoline flows and see if it's blocked. Blow the new one too so you can see the difference. If the old one was kind of blocked or dirty, but it wasn't the problem of your car, at least you replaced a not so good filter).

Nobody warranties that's gonna be problem.

But if you wanna go ahead and do it I wish you good luck. How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?
Q- follow the fuel lines from the tank it will take you to the filter, but, do you have a mechanical pump or an electric pump? if you have an electric one have some one get in and turn the key into the run position, the spot the key goes back to after you start the car. open the fuel tank, like your putting gas in, and listen for a low volume whine. if that is present then find the filter, if it's not present then replace the fuel pump. How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?

How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?

I recently purchased a 98 ford windstar. sometimes when I start it up it idles really rough and occasionally dies. when I am stopped (in gear) and I give it a little gas, the tackometer goes up, and then down under 500 rpms and the oil light flickers. it runs fine once I get moving, it's just when I am stopped or going really slow. I was going to put fuel injector cleaner in, but I figured I would check the fule filter too. is there any way to tell if it needs to be replaced? How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?
i would give this baby a complette tune up air filter pcv valve a gas filter plugs and wires and cap and then you know what you got going on under the hood . plus your transmission might need flushed unless you have a record of the last flush .How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?
Since you don't know the mileage on the fuel filter a good gauge is power under load. If you are accelerating and it misses or does not have power that is usually the fuel filter. Because the engine is starving for gas. What you are describing is not fuel filter. How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?
but a filter doesnt cost much.. so do it if you think it needs it. I agree with the guy above/below idk.. eather wayHow do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?
Check the maintenance record on your Windstar. If it still has the original fuel filter on it then have it replaced. If you do replace it, DO NOT use fuel injector cleaner on it until you've had a chance to run a full tank of gas through that filter -- injector cleaner can damage brand new fuel filters. From personal experience I can tell you that I follow my father's advice and have had my fuel filter replaced in every vehicle I've driven every 50,000 miles and have never had a problem. Some people may say that's overkill, but it's not that expensive to change out a fuel filter and a clogged fuel filter can leave you stranded on the side of the road somewhere, so why take the chance? How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?

Under the car near fuel tank. Its recommended to release fuel system pressure before disconnecting the fuel lines. You can do this by removing the fuel pump fuse/relay or disconnecting the fuel pump and starting the engine and running it till it dies. The fuel system is under approx 40 psi even with the engine off. Just disconnecting this line at the fuel filter before doing so can result in fuel spraying in your face. I would recommend having a professional doing the repair if you are not exp in auto repairs.Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?

I agree with the other poster that this isn't really a DIY job anymore because of the fuel pressure. The spray represents a fire hazard should there be an ignition source nearby and the age of the car indicates to me a potential for the lines in and out to be corroded and require some expert technique in removal.

I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?

There is a little cup with clips on either side holding my fuel filter in. My manual said to squeeze the clips while pushing the filter in, then pull the filter out. When I squeezed the clips, they broke. How do I remove my fuel filter now and do I need those clips for the new filter to be held in properly?I%26039;m trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?
you probably did it as the manual suggested, but they still broke. The plastic they make these clips out of isn't very good quality. Depending on the filter you buy to replace the old one, it should come with clips that you can use as a replacement. I know from experience that Fram and Puralator filters both do. The best way to get the old filter out is to take a small screwdriver and carefully, without doing any more damage to the cup, finish prying out the old clip and slide the filter out. The new one that comes with the filter should work just fine to hold the filter in. Hope this helps!I%26039;m trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?

Be careful to take care of the threads on the Q-jet and don't twist the line. Make sure the spring goes in under the filter and the white nylon ring stays on the housing. Hi, I just did this job yesterday on my truck. If your vehicle is fuel injected it is instant. Fuel injected cars run with high pressure and as soon as you turn the key to on, it will pressurize the lines with gas. If your car is older and has a mechanical fuel pump, you will have to crank the engine for while to get all the air out of the lines, but not much more than a minute or two.How Long Does It Take to Get Air Out of Lines After Changing Fuel Filter?

On your 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L SFI , the Fuel Filter is located:

Under vehicle, center, below rear seating area, rear passenger side of fuel tank, mounted in fuel line

Crawl under this location and see how accessible it is. But when you disconnect the lines, gas spurts out all over the place unless you first relieve the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel injection rail on top of the engine. Unscrew the schrader valve cap and with safety glasses and rag, push down the valve pin (just like on a tire valve) to let some gas out. Careful of the fire hazard. How do I change the fuel filter on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier?

I have spent hours trying to find it.How do I change the fuel filter on my Scooter?
That model doesn't have a fuel filter.

Most common problem with new bikes is a clogged jet in the carburetor.

Bikes are run at the factory and fluids are drained before shipping.

The carburetors never get fully drained.

What little gas that's left in the carb goes bad and clogs the jets, if not fully drained before the customer takes possession.

Bring it back to where you bought it and have them get the bike running properly - it's their responsibility to sell working products.

Or dis-assemble the carburetor yourself, remove and clean the jets - hold them up to the light - you should be able to see through it.How do I change the fuel filter on my Scooter?

no the tank does not need to be emptied. but it does need to be depressurize the system by taking off the gas cap. thats it, grab your tools and replace the filter, some rags may be helpfull, some fuel is gonna spill, make sure u put new o-ring washers supplied with the new filter in place. How do you change a fuel filter on a 93 honda civic?
I had a '94 EX V-Tech, loved it...no the tank does not have to be empty and you should be able to install it really easily, and when you change the filter, that's it! You're done!

How often do you change the fuel filter on a diesel engine?

How often should this be changed? What are indicators it needs to be changed?

ide say every 30k miles if your running halfway decent fuel.

but remember to drain your water out of the filter once a month ESPECIALLY in winter. water collects in diesel, and if the seperator isnt drained it will carry over into the engine. Water does not compress, and youll potentially do bigtime damage to the engine. How often do you change the fuel filter on a diesel engine?
You will feel a noticable loss in power, then it will actually slow down. Depending on the size of the filter you can get 15 thousand miles, that's the recommended interval says Chevy, good fuel quality and the age of the tank will have a factor as well. How often do you change the fuel filter on a diesel engine?

Is it necessary to change a vehicle's fuel filter?

I was online comparing oil filters and happened to stumble on fuel filters and, after reading it, I wanted to know if it was really necessary to change it (they recommended 12-15K miles per change). One of my cars has about 80K on it and the filter has never been changed. Is it really critical? I checked my owner's manual and nowhere does it mention changing fuel filters on a regular basis, nor have I heard of changing it from any mechanic. It does make sense that debris from dirty gas can clog the filter, but how many gallons do you need to fill up to get that kind of blockage? Also, my other car, 2004 Honda Accord, doesn't even have a fuel filter I can buy for it. I guess it's located somewhere that only a mechanic service. If it's so critical, why doesn't the owner's manual mention it? Is it just an unnecessary expense that doesn't have any value? Is it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
After every 50 fill-ups and/or 3,000-4,000 miles. Almost like the oil and oil filter. Have them all changed at the same time.

If you didn't change the fuel filter in 80k miles then the fuel that's put in must diluted as well. Get Fuel Injector cleaner, Lucas is the best, on your next fill up put that stuff in.Is it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
I drove a suv for 15 years 175,000 miles and never changed the fuel filter. Then I moved to a different area, within a month it wouldn't start the only problem was the fuel filter was stopped up. One of the gas stations in the new area had trash in their tanks, so I would say yes change it but only about every 75,000 miles. Is it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
yes at least every other oil change or at every oil change they arent that exspensiveIs it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
I have a Subaru with 144,000 on it, a Toyota with 102,000 on it, and I've owed many others that have had over 100K and never put on a new fuel filter.

here's my reasoning, which goes against what other people may think. If a fuel filter was restricted at all, it would affect the car at high speed, while the most amount of fuel was going thru the filter. It wouldn't have problems driving around town or any of that.Is it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
The quality of the fuel going into cars anymore is far and away superior to what went into cars just twenty years ago. Go back forty years and the fuel was visibly different. From that aspect, fuel filters are almost - but not quite! - unnecessary. They're there to catch bits of crud that make it into the fuel from the tanker, the pipeline, and your own fuel tank - that's where the filter really earns its keep. It doesn't take a large bit of crud to stop up a fuel injector.

80K miles? Go ahead and change it. $10, 10 minutes - a small trade for one less thing to worry about. They're easy to replace - simple hand tools will get it loose, and it's usually close to the fuel tank, but models vary. Have a couple of pencils on hand to plug the fuel lines so you don't wind up taking an unleaded shower.

Get a copy of the Haynes repair manual for your make and model of car. They're typically less than $25, and worth every penny. You'd be surprised how much you can do, once a professional has done it first and written it out for you.

There is a fuel filter on your Accord. It's inside the tank. That's a bit more involved, but still an easy couple of hours to fix. They're available online (price I found: $65) or at your dealership. Dropping the tank and changing it yourself will save you lots and lots of money compared to $60/hr labor the shop charges. Is it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
yes, ALL vehicles have some kind of filtering media (filter) for fuel. debris builds up at the bottom of your fuel tank over time. whether it's rust, dirt, or even crap from the fuel pump itself. the fuel pump is usually designed to prevent picking up this stuff, but it doesn't always work. better to catch it as soon as possible before it enters the engine. Is it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
this is not rocket science. if the fuel filter is replaceable it is meant to be replaced. if it is located inside the fuel tank it is usually part of the fuel pump or pick up assembly and is replaced when the fuel pump failsIs it necessary to change a vehicle%26039;s fuel filter?
yes you should have changed it 50,000 miles ago to keep your car running good and from getting the fuel injectors plugged.

We just replaced the fuel pump and now the car loses power when driving and you have to floor the gas for it to go. Went and had the codes ran and it says too much air in the fuel!

Suggestion was to change the fuel filter and we found it but how in the world do we get the old one out? Looks like a lot of stuff in the way.

Also, would a defective fuel pump cause this problem as well as when you turn the car on there is a loud humming sound by the fuel tank. Never heard that before either.

How do you change a fuel filter on a 1997 Honda Accord?

I have a four-cylinder Honda Accord that needs a new fuel filter. I have the fuel filter, and have been told that it's fairly easy, but I can't find the fuel line under the car. Get ready to cuss a lot. The actual replacement isn't bad, metal line screws into both sides, but the placement on the 97 accord will make you want to choke an engineer. it is halfway down the firewall in line with the brake master cylinder. You will probably need 2 crow's feet to get the bastard out. Coming up from the bottom is slightly easier, but you are still going to need every swear word in your vocabulary. How do you change a fuel filter on a 1997 Honda Accord?
Spend about $18 on a Haynes Manual from Auto Zone. It will tell you everything you need to know...... and much more! I buy one for every vehicle I own so I can do repairs and diagnose problems myself instead of paying a dealer or mechanic. Also, some vehicle maintenance shops will give you some pointers for free, you just have to ask.How do you change a fuel filter on a 1997 Honda Accord?
That's because it's not under the car, open the hood, install your hood prop, stare at your winshield in the center, look a few inches to the left and you will see it. You take the two banjo bolts out and remove the fuel filter.

Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that sputters when I step on the gas. It stalled this morning when I was idling at a stop light but started right back up again. Could this be the fuel filter or fuel pump? Is the fuel filter located in the gas tank? If anyone can give me a walk-through on how to change the fuel filter and/or pump, I would greatly appreciate it.Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. To change the fuel pump you will have to remove the fuel tank.

There is an inline fuel filter that is not so hard to change. Try that first. It is located near the fuel tank under the rear of the Jeep.

Stalling at idle is more likely caused by a dirty idle speed control solenoid. This can be cleaned by spraying throttle body cleaner into the little slot near the throttle plate inside the throttle body.

Before servicing the fuel pump or filter, you need to test the fuel pressure. Many auto parts stores have loaner tools available or they may check it for you. The tool consists of a pressure gage that connects to the fuel pressure test port. Normal pressure for the aniline six is around 40psi. A faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause the problems you are seeing as well.

If you do remove the fuel pump form the tank, pay close attention to he rubber hose that connects the pump to the lines. I just had a time tracking down a mystery fuel pressure problem in a Cherokee that turned out to be a pin hole in that little rubber hose.

If you are dealing with rubber lines (not metal) you may clamp of the fuel supply and wrap a rag around the line end. If the lines are metal, you will need to spill a bit of fuel at the filter end, but a rag will do nicely. ***Remember to disconnect the battery prior to service, as power to the fuel sending unit will cause it to push fuel up the line to the engine, causing much more leakage and a dangerous hazard to you and the environment***How do I change a fuel filter?
Have to know more info. Fuel injection or carb? Make and model also. Letting the gas leak is asking for a fire and possible injury. How do I change a fuel filter?
There are usually no fuel shut off valves on fuel lines. (except on some tractor trailer fuel tanks)

If you have a leaking tank you need to get all of the fuel out of it and fix/replace it or you are a moving bomb waiting for a spark to blow you up!

I assume you've found the fuel filter? (It can be anywhere in the fuel line depending on make and model.) It is usually held in a clamp and has the 2 fuel lines clamped to it. Have the new filter ready and waiting to be installed. (make sure you can see the arrow or marking that shows which way to mount it as filters are one way only.) Unclamp one line from the old filter and pull the line off of the filter. (I always disconnect the line from the filter to the engine first as the old dirty filter will restrict the flow of fuel from the tank somewhat and minimize the spilled gas.) Put your finger over the end that is towards the fuel tank and push the removed line onto the proper end of the new filter. (make sure you have the loosened clamp on the line) Now remove the other clamp and line from the old filter and push them onto the other end of the new filter. Tighten the clamps and put the filter back into its holder. Messy, but all done.

Note: if you have a fuel injection system, you might need to bleed it off before changing the filter. A repair manual for your make and model will say if that is needed and how to do it. (Chilton and Haynes, sold at local auto parts stores, make the best repair manuals for the backyard mechanic.)

Head down to your local auto part store, give them the info for your car and tell them you need a fuel filter. Once you have one, find your local do-it-yourself hydraulic lift shop. There may be some hobby shops around that offer that. You may need to look into it. When your car is lifted up, look underneath it near the gas tank, you will find a part that looks very similar to the part you bought.

Fuel Filters just screw off, and screw in. They are fairly simple to change. Make sure you hav something to catch the excess fuel though.

Don't be worried, the fuel that is coming out is only relieving the pressure on the lines, it will stop. Then screw in your new filter, and you're done!

Hope this helps! How do you change a fuel filter?
The fuel filter for the Toyota Camry's are not in the gas tank.

They are typically located in the engine compartment for your model. They are typically black and are easy to spot. Check out the images from the instructions below. They are connected with a banjo fitting on one side.

Make sure you use 2 wrenches when removing the connector, so you don't bend the fuel line by mistake.

The information for it's replacement can be found here:

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/090How do you change a fuel filter?
Go to the AutoZone website they will not only tell you how much the part is but where it's located. . It looks like the filter is located on top of the engine underneath your air filter assembly . In the interest of you not becoming a crispy critter make sure that the car is COLD!!!!!!! before attempting this ,that you are using proper eye protection before releasing pressure on the nut, and that there are no sources of ignition in the area. Having a working fire extiguisher nearby is a good idea also.

You know of course that fuel filters can only be installed one way, which end is which does make a difference.

Got the fuel filter its the right model just dont know where and how to change it, thanks in advanceWhere to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?
I own a shop, and yours is one that is on the frame rail (drivers side) about half way between the engine, and fuel tank. It is best to raise the front of the vehicle to keep the fuel from running out. Look in the fuse box, find the fuse that says %26quot;fuel pump%26quot;, remove it before you attempt to replace the filter, as some pumps will run some even when the ignition switch is in the off mode. Look at the filter, and you will see a place for a wrench on both ends of the filter, so find something that fits it. Look at the fuel line, and find a good tight fitting wrench that fits the line. It is best to use a line wrench for this, but a good tight fitting wrench usually works ok. Remove the strap around the filter, and find something to catch fuel in. Remove the front (towards the engine) line first, pay close attention to the end of the line where it goes into the filter, there should be an o-ring on the line, so don't loose or damage it. When the fuel has stopped draining, remove the rear line, and turn the filter to where it (as well as the line) can drain into the container, and not all over you. Doing this job is a serious fire hazzard, so it's best to do outside in the fresh air, and be careful about making any sparks. Once the old filter is off, look at the new one to make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle. There should be one end of the filter that tells you the direction of flow by an arrow, or letter that says %26quot;IN, or OUT%26quot;. In would be towards the tank, and out towards the front of the vehicle. Make sure the o-ring is in place, and attach the rear line, but don't tighten it yet. Slide the clamp over the filter that holds it to the frame rail making sure it is correct, but don't attach to frame yet. Install the front line making sure the o-ring is in place. Now you can attach the clamp that holds the filter to the frame, and tighten down. Hold the filter with one wrench, and tighten the rear line. You will find it easy to tighten by mashing the two wrenches together. Tighten the front line in the same fashion, and install the fuse back in its place. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, but don't start the engine, and check the connections of the line by rubbing with your fingers to see if they are wet, if so the lines are not tight enough or the o-ring is bad. Once you are satisfied there is no leaks, start the engine, and check for leaks again. If there are no leaks, you are good to go.

You have to either lift the car or jack it up on the LR corner. The filter is just in front of the LR wheel right on the uni-body. All you have to do is install a 13/16 and a 5/8 wrench on the filter and the nut and loosen both ends. Then finish taking the nuts out of the filter and wiggle the filter out. Reverse to install. Careful, pressurized gas inside. Good luck.

It is a good place to start for a beginner. I don't know the exact engine,

but most Pug diesels have the fuel filter at the front top of the engine

near the injector pump. You will need a hex / Allen key of the right size (about 6mm) to remove the top, carefully as there may be fuel pipes attached and there will be fuel to the brim. The filter sits snugly inside, just lift out and replace. How easy is it to change a fuel filter on a diesel Peugeot 306?
A Haynes manual will tell exactly how. My Picasso has the same generic engine, but the fuel filter is different on different years. If yours has pipes with quick release connections you press down on the white clip and they spring apart slightly and pull off. You have to be very careful not to get dirt into the disconnected pipes and it is a good idea to cling film the ends. All in all it is a simple procedure. You may have to prime the engine before restart. If so there will be a black rubber bulb under the bonnet to squeeze about 6 times to move the fuel into the pump. How easy is it to change a fuel filter on a diesel Peugeot 306?

first of all make sure th filter is external most newer cars are putting them in the tank. Also most fuel filters should be good about 40-50k miles. Also if you have flex fuel those filters are expensive. I just changed one the other day (flex fuel) and the filter was almost $60 plus the labor of changeing it was not so cheap.

one end has a coupler on it that you need a special line release tool for. the other end you need a couple wrenches for. i would say unless you're extra mechanically inclined. let somebody do it for you. its an inexpensive procedure. in fact, you'll probably spend less to have a shop do it than you would for the tools to do it yourself.

How do you change the fuel filter on a 2000 Mercedes Benz c230 Kompressor?

I have a 2000 c230 Kompressor, 4 cyln. However, I don't even know where the fuel filter is located. Can anyone tell me exactly where the fuel filter is and how to change it? Pictures would be nice. How do you change the fuel filter on a 2000 Mercedes Benz c230 Kompressor?
take it to a independent MB mechanic, then WATCH him do it. Can be tricky, some of those models have TWO filters

One in the back, near the base of the fuel tank (near the fuel pump) and one under the hood.

As with all things MB, it is overly complex and a serious @ss-pain !How do you change the fuel filter on a 2000 Mercedes Benz c230 Kompressor?
There two filters on the benz the first one is at the rear of car, the fuel pump from tank pmp to filter easy to change dont have to do anything special as the only fuel that will come out is in the line and filter as fuel pump from tank vlve is closed.

the second filter is the one changed like every 40k miles as the one at tank like every 100k miles.

the second filter is located in fuel line just before injection so you maybe have to remove the breather to get to or see.. another inline filter.. easy..

    good luck

How to change the fuel filter for a Toyota Targo 1999 model?

Please be accurate as this is for a real car!How to change the fuel filter for a Toyota Targo 1999 model?
    Tarago?

    Sorry no experience with those.

But as it can't be more difficult than any other automobile, if you want to do it without getting any kind of manual specific for your vehicle - which I suggest so it can show you where the location is - then you would have to just get under it and trace the fuel lines from the fuel tank until where the filter is.

There may be one incorporated inside the tank or more commonly is inline with the fuel line under the vehicle.

Yet another may be in the engine compartment near the fire wall before the fuel line connects to the fuel rail.

Easiest way to learn for your vehicle is to get a manual for that van.

    1. Depressurize the system.

    2. Remove old filter (have rags and drip pan available to contain the mess).

    3. Install the new filter.

    4. Pressurize the system

    5. Run the vehicle for a few minutes.

    6. Check for leaks.

Some of the sites below may help you too.

Just trying to help as I noticed no one answered this question yet! Good luck!

Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?

I keep reading that ECUs are not interchangable but how do I found out which one I need (95 mitsu eclipse 2.0 DOHC) I am having MORE work done to my car, but I am still deciding if it is worth doing for I am already in for $443 for work done w/towing and would rather not shell out another $200 (estimated)

From the little info I have seen there are three choices for my engine but I havent a clue if all three will plug in but have a 33% chance of having it be the correct one. I am trying to become informed on the repairs and want more knowledge before I tell the mechanic to proceed with the repairs. I would hate to find out he replaced the ECU with one that will do the job for a small amount of time.

I am hoping for reassurance that ONLY the correct ECU will fit and start my car. Thanks in advance to any and all the take the time to replyCar needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?
It's true ECUs are not interchangeable, but that should not mean you'll have trouble finding it, because there should be only one choice for your car, model and engine. It might depend on which Eclipse you have, i.e. GS, GST, GSX, or RS. I suggest going to www.rockauto.com. Then just select your car, etc..., and under the electrical category, go to the engine control module (computer). They list the choices there, as well as the OEM model . Look at the number on yours, and the one that matches is the correct one.

On another note... Some details of your story seem to be missing, but it sounds like a typical sheisty mechanic to me... You bring it in, have some work done, and with your car at the mercy of being towed, they tell you you need this and that expensive crap too or your car's gonna blow, etc...

Some important information is missing here though... Like why was the car being brought in for a tune-up? Tune up stuff like plugs, wires, filters, etc... are good to do when needed, but they are not the cause of stranding you, just poor performance/efficiency. I'm assuming that somehow it's been explained to you that the ECU is what stranded you...and yeah that could be, but I'd wonder how that was determined...and if the problem was the ECU, then why was the tune up stuff done?

Another thing...you are trying to figure out which ECU is usable, but you're afraid of the mechanic putting in one which won't last? I don't know if you plan on doing just that part yourself....but either way, if the mechanic doesn't know which ECU to get, then he/she's sure out to lunch, and someone who would never see my car again. If you're thinking of perusing the salvage yards, then again, there should be a model on the ECU itself, and if that's the same, it's the same unit. But again, you said your main purpose is reassurance that only the correct ECU will fit and start your car... That's true, but it shouldn't be relevant. There is no benefit to trying to find a different-than-original ECU, unless you found a cheap one on ebay or something.Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?
yes only the correct engine control unit will work,, my question is my does it need one after a tuneup. is there a problem with the one you have, if there is then any problems you are having may be the ecu not the spark plugs and oil filter.i would sugjest having someone preform this for you since replacing an ecu requires care to protect against static electricity. that will dammage a new ecu

How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?

i have a 1998 dodge ram 2500 diesel. i changed the fuel filter yesterday and then it wouldnt start. i filled the fuel filter canister with diesel but i know i still have some air in the lines that isnt coming out and it still wont start. what can i do to solve this problem? How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
bleed the injectersHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
on my 2500 Chev diesel I have a primer that I pump 6-7 times to prime (get the air out) after I change fuel filtersHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
Rob if there is air still in the fuel line you will ned to bleed it out. Make sure your fuel filter is filled all the way to the top with diesel. Then there will be a fuel line that runs into the fuel pump. Crack the line open about a half a turn. Once you do that have someone roll the engine over and over. This will let the air bleed out of the fuel lines. Keep rolling the engine over until the engine fires off. Once it fires off close the fuel line off while it is running. hope this answers you questionHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
If the above answer doesn't work.crack the fuel lines one at a time at the injector and crank it over to get the air out.helps to have a battery charger connected and don't crank allot so your starter doesn't overheat.ase techHow do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
The above answer is the correct way for you to get all the air out. But..... if it is cold where you are, and you dont feel like breaking lines loose try this method that I have used on my 2000 Cummins. Fill the filter completely, turn the key to the on position, wait for the fuel pump to quit running, bump the key forward real quick, the fuel pump will run again for 8-10 seconds. Do this 2 or 3 times and then try to start. If it wont start do it again. This has worked for me everytime I change my filter.Sometimes I have to do it twice, but, once is usually enough. How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
you may need to refill the filter bowl with diesel. take the cap off carefully, add diesel, about 2/3 full and replace the filter cap. try starting. you may have to do this a couple times. also check your hpop (high pressure oil pump) for oil level. it is on the top front of motor. remove the fill plug and make sure oil is within 1%26quot; of top. you need this full as it provides oil pressure to open the fuel injectors. excessive cranking can drain it.

i'm guessing that the truck ran fine until you changed the fuel filter. when changing try to remove slowly and let fuel drain from old filter back into filter bowl and when putting new filter in do this slowly too so as to keep from spilling fuel out of bowl. How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?
find the bleeder valve on the injector pump turn the key on don't start it and the fuel pump should bleed itself
