How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?

I know I had a fuel injection cleaning and a fuel filter changed but I recently went to get an oil change and the mechanic said that I still had the cars original part that had never been replaced. How can I tell? I have a 2000 Chevy MalibuHow can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?
You really cant tell especially if they are using the same brand.

Best thing to do if you ever get it changed make a marking on the new that you know , so if someone ever tells you that it needs to be changed and changes it, ask them for the old one and find your marking. Some shops take advantage of woman, be careful. Also if you dump a fuel system cleaner every other month, and dont run your car on empty all the time..that will save your filters and your gas pump! Fuel system cleaners that you dump in your gas tank run about $5-$10 dollars. and tell your man to take care of these things ; )How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?
well.....if the store used a GM fuel filter it will be identical to the one they supposedly replaced so may be tough to prove anything. How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?
Fuel filter is cheap and easy to replace if you have a car lift --- like a auto-garage will.

The part only costs like 10 bucks and it should take them less than 5 minutes to swap them because they just plug-in.How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?
look for wrench marks on the nuts and bolts. Look for scrap marks on the fuel filter from tools. You always leave your mark when you work on something. Call the press cause you just meet superman. How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?
no way to really tell, I would say your oil change mechanic is just trying to drum up business for himself as if it was replaced with an origional filter from GM there would be no way to tell.
