How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?

I have a 1990 camaro rs. I was just changing my fuel filter and after I got the bolt off for the out end of the filter gas started coming out. I expected a little to come out but it just kept coming in a steady stream so I quickly put the bolt back on. Will gas just keep coming out until I get the new filter in? or will it just stop after a little while. I've got 3/4 of a tank left and I don't want to accidently drain the whole tank. so far I'm guessing about 2 cups worth have came out. what should i do to save gas?How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
NO . IT WILL NOT ALL LEAK OUT....JUST WHAT IS LOADED IN THE LINES...USE A CATCH PAN AND LET IT DRAIN......JUST MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE FILTER IN WITH THE ARROW TOWARDS THE ENGINE...GOOD LUCK!How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
Added to the previous responders... DON'T do it in the garage!

It's one thing to have your car catch fire, but if it happens inside the garage... well, you get the idea. How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
if the fuel pump isnt on then it will prob. stop. theres quite a bit in the filter itself so thats prolly what your seeing. How much gas should come out of my fuel filter when I replace it?
If it's fuel injected, you should have relieved the line pressure before removing the filter bolt.

Here's the way the pros do it. They get vacuum caps in assorted sizes and remove one end of the line and quickly cap it off. Most of the gas will be coming backwards from the fuel rail back down towards the filter. So cap that off first. Then remove the connection to the fuel tank.

Hope that helps.
